NBA Roundup 10-31-09

Just a few tidbits about the NBA.

Stephon Marbury - Can you drug test a guy that isn't in the league anymore? Marbury was escorted from Madison Square Garden for sitting in the wrong seat. Instead of moving, he got all ignant and refused to move to his correct seat and security had him removed completely. At one point, Marbury pulled out a video camera to tape the incident. What was he thinking?

Cleveland Cavaliers - I'm not feeling very good about the Cavs with Shaq. The ball still seems to end up in LeBron's hands and we saw how that ended last year. The over under on Mike Brown's job is 2 months. They have GOT to get someone who can revamp that offense ASAP. Or you can refer to LeBron as a former Cav.

Gilbert Arenas - People, yes you Average Bro, you might need to get a little excited. Arenas looks like he's back and maybe a little bit better than we thought. He has played well in the Wizards games so far and they are 2-1 and their schedule looks favorable. It may be time to get back on their bandwagon.

Pau Gasol - That hamstring doesn't seem to be healing as fast as many thought and at least Gasol is one who is starting to get nervous. Let me just say this, the Lakers don't need Gasol right now. Pau, go sit down somewhere for a while and heal up so we can see this team in the Finals.

J.J. Redick - Talk about things you should keep to yourself. Redick and some friends are making some rap songs. (Let that sink in for a second). No they're not going to release an album, but the fact that this is even news will make it must hear music. All of us should be shaking in our boots.

Carmelo Anthony - Wow!!! I know it's very early, but hey this guy is ballin. Now the question is can he get his team a high seed in the Western Conference playoffs so they can avoid the Lakers?

NBA Round Up 10-23-08

Memphis Grizzlies - With the glut of point and shooting guards on the team, the Grizz could be entertaining trading Javaris Crittenton out of Memphis. It looks like a deal to the Magic is a possibility, but aren't there a few other teams that could use a starting caliber point guard? Golden State, New York Knicks, and the Phoenix Suns just to name a few. We'll see if Crittenton gets moved before the season starts.

Chicago Bulls - Bad news for Larry Hughes as he will be out for 6-8 weeks after dislocating his shoulder in a pre-season game last night against the TImberwolves. The Bulls have a glut at the guard spots and Hughes was one person that wasn't going to take nice to coming off the bench. This may solve rotation issues for the Bulls for the short time, but they have to find something to do with Hughes and more importantly Ben Gordon.

Washington Wizards - We've heard this before, but Agent Zero is ahead of schedule on his recuperating from surgery. The initial prognosis had Agent Zero sitting out until the beginning of the year, but he's mentioning the end of November now. Can someone save this guy from himself? Heal 100%, then take it slowly getting back on the court. The Wizards paid Arenas too much money to have him sitting on the bench in street clothes for any prolonged period of time.

Miami Heat - Shaun Livingston may finally step on a court and play in an NBA sanctioned game (albeit pre-season) for the first time since that horrible knee injury he suffered. I will say that I personally am hoping that he is able to play well and come back from that horrendous injury.

Utah Jazz - Matt Harpring is getting close to getting back on the floor for the Jazz. All that means is that everyone better get ready for a lot of elbows, pulling and grabbing. Harpring is a tough guy, who actually has pretty decent basketball skills. He was a star at Georgia Tech so many moons ago.

NBA Round Up 9-22-08

New York Knicks - What does it take to get rid of this guy? The proposed deal between the Knicks and the Grizzlies to finally get rid of Zach Randolph is dead. It seems as though the Knicks wouldn't include an additional 1st round pick and the Grizzlies decided it wasn't in their best interests to get Randolph. Walsh, what happened? I gave you the okay to do this deal. You're already thinking about buying out Stephon Marbury, why not make this deal to get rid of Randolph too? I can't wait for training camp to start so we can here all of the positives about Randolph before the Knicks find a dummy, I mean someone else to make this deal with.

San Antonion Spurs - Have signed Salim Stoudamire to the roster. The former Atlanta Hawk was brought in to give the Spurs more 3 point shooting since they lost Brent Barry (Suns) and Robert Horry (retirement?). I can see this guy staying in the league for a while as a 3 point shooting specialist. With Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili handling much of the scoring punch, this should be a fine fit.

Washington Wizards - Antonio Daniels decided not to have surgery on his wrist over the summer and feels a lot better since it has healed. This isn't a Gilbert Arenas injury requiring any more surgery, so the people in DC have something to be happy about. The Wizards would like to bring another guard in a former Terp, Juan Dixon, for training camp. They want him to sign an un-guaranteed deal (similar to what Darius Miles has) or a make good deal. I think that Juan should hold out a little longer. He's worth more than that.

Golden State Warriors - Another extension? It looks like the Warriors are going to extend the guy who's been giving out all of these contracts over the summer, Chris Mullin. The Warriors have turned around since Mullin became EVP of Basketball Operations. He may rue the day that he didn't keep Baron and then his young star goes out and injures himself doing something he shouldn't have been doing. But hey, that's all down the road.

Utah Jazz - Another defection of an NBA star to a European team? Well, Andrei Kirilenko has heard the rumors that he is interested in going back to the motherland, Russia, for a deal when he's finished with the Jazz. I'm not sure and I don't think that AK is sure that's what he wants. I think the coin he'd make here would be more than he could in Russia, but hey, they are making lots of money on oil lately, so it may not be a bad deal. We'll see what happens, since the Jazz have to make some decisions about their roster with both AK and Boozer up for extensions.

Once Bitten, Twice Shy

After undergoing another surgery to remove some loose particles in his knee, Gilbert Arenas will miss the beginning of the season and return to the Wizards by December. Talk about getting the wind knocked out of you. Gilbert had surgery last year on his knee, came back in time to play towards the end of the season. Now surgery number two. This is now what those in DC wanted to hear after he was given the keys to the kingdom, 6 years $111M. At the time, I said the deal only makes the Wizards decent in the East and now with Gilbert out for a little more than a month, they are already running up hill to catch the Pistons, the Magic, the Sixers, the Celtics, the Cavs, and the Bulls (no, not really, but I threw them in to make sure you're reading).
