NFL Wrap Up 10-16-08

Dallas Cowboys - It seems as though Pacman (isn't everyone back to calling him Pacman now since he effed up) Jones has been admitted into a Dallas area rehab center. I mentioned in a earlier post that Pacman on his own was a big mistake and then he went and had to get into it with his babysitter/personal security. As a part of the whole Pacman deal, word out of Dallas is that the officer that showed up to the hotel when the police were called, was very lenient with Pacman and not even putting his name in the report. It seems as though the officer arrived at the hotel prior to Pacman even getting there. If that doesn't sound strange enough, the report is without a lot of facts. So, the powers that be at the police department are investigating this incident from their side of the fence to find out what really happened. Somewhere Jerry Jones is on the phone with Dallas police trying to 'work this out'.

Tony Romo has been told by Da Man, Brett Favre, that he should suck it up and play this week. I can imagine Favre telling him, it's just a broken pinkie. You can't let that stop you. I'm an iron man, be like Brett. Romo practiced yesterday on the sidelines throwing passes and claimed he was ready to play.

Pittsburgh Steelers - Willie Parker has aggravated his tweaked left knee during practice on Monday by stepping in a hole on the practice field. How does this happen? Is there a head grounds man in Pittsburgh without a job today?

Philadelphia Eagles - Well it seems someone in the Eagles organization is reading my blog. The Eagles not only inquired about the services of Roy Williams before the Cowboys dumped a boatload of money in his pockets, but they also inquired about 'not as good as his father' Kellen Winslow from Cleveland. The Browns said 'no' and then went out and destroyed the New York Football Giants on Monday night. Winslow's backup, Eric Hieden was instrumental to the run game (something Winslow isn't) and caught several tough passes over the middle. Is it too late to get Andy Reid back on the phone about this deal?

Buffalo Bills - Indianapolis Colts - Buffalo Bills - The Bills and the Colts agreed to a deal that would send John McCargo to Indy for a draft pick (4th round pick). All was well until McCargo failed the physical, due to an injured back, nullifying this deal. What happens next is the big question since McCargo's defensive line coach has openly questioned McCargo's desire to play. That's a tough spot to be in.

Oakland Raiders (hopefully) - Tim Brown has pushed himself into the limelight as a possible candidate to assist the Raiders organization with getting back on top. Brown feels that he can help make some decisions on personnel, not a GM though, but more of a consultant. Normally I would disagree, but I like Tim Brown. Liked him as a player, but the best part is that he knows the game and can provide the leadership that the Raiders need. Maybe he can even convince the old man, Al Davis, to go and sit around a pool for a while.

Kansas City Chiefs - Is he or isn't he? The word out of KC is that Larry Johnson is going to be suspended (by the team) for their game this weekend. Supposedly the Chiefs tried to trade Johnson before Tuesday and he didn't react well when he found out about it. He did practice today and Herm Edwards will address the situation later today. This will be interesting. (JUST IN - LJ is out this weekend, he's been deactivated.)

Minnesota Vikings - Thomas Tapeh has been released from the Vikings. It seems as though Tapeh didn't tell the Vikings about a knee surgery (weeks before he signed) prior to signing with them this year. Tapeh had signed a multi-year deal with $1.2M guaranteed. Don't know why the Vikings are pissed, didn't he pass the physical? There's got to be more to this.

New York Jets - Who didn't expect this one? Brett Favre is on his on again, off again deal with retirement. Brett, it's only week 7 baby, you gotta suck it up (isn't that what he told Romo?). Hopefully this doesn't get turned into a full blown mess like it was in Green Bay. Some people (the real Cheeseheads that turned on Brett) are probably hoping that it does.

NFL Round Up 9-23-08

Pittsburgh Steelers - Has the bad luck finally turned for me? Rashard Mendenhall will get his first start with the Steelers this week since 'Fast' Willie Parker is out with a sprained knee. We wish Parker a quick recovery but not too quick because I need Mendenhall to do some things for me.

St. Louis Rams - The Rams are sitting Marc Bulger and dusting off Trent Green for the foreseeable future. Green last started in 1999 before a little known QB, Kurt Warner, was given the starting nod due to a knee injury Green sustained. Isn't there a 6 Degrees of Separation thing going on here?

Cincinnati Bengals - Have signed Jamar Fletcher to a contract. Fletcher was drafted in 2001 by Miami and has been around the league with Houston, San Diego, and Detroit. Meanwhile, another one of the Bengals practice players Maurice Purify, will spend a week on house arrest for violating his probation.

New Orleans Saints - Adding more problems to the loss of Jeremy Shockey, Jamar Nesbit has been suspended by the league for 4 games for violating the league's policy on anabolic steroids and related substances. Nesbit has started for the Saints since 2006.

NFL Week 1 Wrap Up

Well, it was a good thing that I didn't take my bets to Vegas or I'd be trying to walk back home. All in all a good day of NFL Football, just a bad day to be a QB. We'll see what I got right and what I got wrong on my picks.
Detroit @ Atlanta - Wow!!!! Not sure if I'm more surprised by the Lions not playing or the way the Falcons did. 22 carries for 220 yards, and two TDs, I think that gets Michael Turner the game ball for the week. Atlanta destroyed the Lions, although Roy Williams at least got me the TD I needed for fantasy. Inquisitive Mind 0 - 1 for the week.

Seattle @ Buffalo - Another good game, but the Buffalo special teams won it for them. Marshawn Lynch had 18 carries for 76 yards and a TD. Edwards played well, but Julius Jones disappointed in his Seahawk debut. Inquisitive Mine 1-1 for the week.

New York Jets @ Miami - A little shaky start for the folks in New Jersey. Favre played decently and Thomas Jones got his 101 yards (and a TD), but this game came down to the last few minutes. It really shouldn't have. The Jets should be happy that they played the Dolphins this early in the season. Inquisitive Mind 2-1 for the week.

Kansas City @ New England - Wow and not in a good way. Brady is probably out for the year and the Pats snuck by a terrible Chiefs team. I know they are glad for the win, but thinking about Brady being out for the year has got to temper all of the Superbowl talk. There were reports from ESPN saying that Brady tore ligaments in his knee and that Tim Rattay and Chris Simms are en route to New England for possible tryouts. That last sentence has soooo much wrong with it. Inquisitive Mind 3-1 for the week.

Tampa Bay @ New Orleans - Can you feel sorry for a team that has had success and has won a Superbowl in the last 8 years? The Bucs were so close yesterday, but yet so far. They kept a Saints team within reach the entire game but not enough O to win it. Inquisitive Mind 4-1 for the week.

St. Louis @ Philadelphia - Could I have been wrong? This was an old school out behind the shed butt whuppin!! McNabb looked great and he was throwing to scabs. Philly looked like the team that they said they were, or did they just play a terrible Rams team? We'll see over the next few weeks. Inquisitive Mind 5-1 for the week.
Houston @ Pittsburgh - Add another butt whuppin to the menu. Roethlisberger was almost perfect for the game, Willie Parker had 138 yards and 3 TDs, and even Byron Leftwich played. I don't think that you could write it up any better than this. Inquisitive Mind 6-1 for the week.

Jacksonville @ Tennessee - Things went horribly wrong here. The Titans D stepped up and played great. They had 2 picks of Garrard and they held the Jaguars running game in check. The bad part is that Vince Young hurt his knee/leg and he's being examined as we speak. The hope is that it isn't anywhere near as bad as Brady. Inquisitive Mind 6-2 for the week.

Cincinnati @ Baltimore - The Baltimore D played like they haven't played in a while. They kept the Bengals under 200 yards total offense. Flacco got his first win and my week's picks are starting to go in the wrong direction. Inquisitive Mind 6-3 for the week.

Carolina @ San Diego - San Diego wins this game in a thriller. Oh no,.......what?!?!? Delhomme did what? That wasn't picked? The Panthers shock the Chargers on a last second (actually 2 seconds) touchdown catch by Dante Rosario. The Chargers D looked stale and the offense wasn't that good either. This is one of those that got away from the Chargers. The Panthers took it from them. Inquisitive Mind 6-4 for the week.

Arizona @ San Francisco - This was a yawner. It seemed like the Cardinals thought that by showing up they would win. It took them the second half of the game to put it out of reach. Nothing spectacular in this one, but I did get a pick right. Inquisitive Mind 7-4 for the week.

Dallas @ Cleveland - Talk about a half of domination. I thought the Cowboys would have gotten close to 50 in this game the way they were playing. Romeo Crennel talked to his D at half time and the result was them at least bloodying Tony Romo. The Browns made a lot of mistakes on O, and they couldn't stop the Cowboys running game. Marion Barber got hurt in the first game of the season, that running style isn't going to lend to him playing all 16. Inquisitive Mind 8-4 for the week.
Chicago @ Indianapolis - Was this a home game for the Bears? It sounded like there were more Bears fans in Lucas Oil Stadium than Colts fans. All that talk about Manning just turning the page and coming out smoking, well it doesn't happen quite that easily. The Bears tried their best to confuse Manning and his new starting center by bringing some kind of blitz the entire game. They would line up 7 and you never knew who was coming. Forte played well in his debut ending the game with 123 yards and a TD. He also became the answer to a trivia question, Who was the first person to score a TD in the new Lucas Oil Stadium? Inquisitive Mind 8-5 for the week.

Two more games to go,...let's see if I can't go 10-5 for the week with wins by Minnesota and Oakland.
