Help Me to Help You

Ok, I know that we all were young and dumb at some point in our lives and some of us can just drop the young part and keep the dumb. I have been following the NFL draft and all of the nausea inducing coverage for the past month for an event that will happen this weekend. With that said, I have a small problem here with some of the guys going into the draft.

Percy Harvin (WR from Florida) and Brandon Tate (WR from UNC) are among 2 athletes on a list that tested positive for marijuana. WTF?!?!? Guys, you are higher profile guys (both scheduled to go in the 1st or 2nd round on most mock drafts) and you are applying for a job with a major company. What are you thinking? Yes, these guys are young, but they have to have a parent, a sibling, an uncle/aunt/cousin/grandma/friend or someone telling them to keep their nose clean.

I mean these guys would take a shower, get a haircut, and brush your teeth before approaching Halle or Beyonce, so why not stay away from the ganja before the biggest interview of your life? The sad part is they know that they are going to be tested, it's common knowledge. You know when the NFL combine is, so why don't you for two months prior, just chill out? At the end of the day, this habit could negatively impact your money!!!!!

Yes, they are young and this may not hurt them as bad, but why take the chance?!?!? This goes into my Stupid Athletes Tricks file. If you guys need a mentor, just hit me up. For the money that you lost on smoking, you could have paid me about half and I would have gotten you right.

Why aren't all of the guys on the list publicized? Why not put the entire list out there? What were these kids (Harvin and Tate) thinking?

Chilling with Marshawn

I have tried to wait for more information to come out about this but nothing as of yet. Supposedly Marshawn and two of his boys were chillin in his car. Not sure whether they were outside a friends house, a parking lot, a housing development, but they were in Culver City, CA. The police who happened to be on patrol 'came into contact' with these individuals and one of them realized that one of the individuals was in fact Marshawn Lynch. Supposedly a window rolled down in the car and the police smelled marijuana, which sparked a search of the car. A loaded gun was found and attributed to Lynch, who was subsequently arrested and charged with having a concealed handgun.

I'm normally not in defense of stupid, but this sounds like a lot of baloney. How do officers on patrol happen to 'come into contact' with three (I'm making the assumption here) black men in a Mercedes? Lynch was not given any traffic violation and I haven't seen a verification that any drugs were found in the car. Can you spell C-O-N-S-P-I-R-A-C-Y?

Now Lynch has been in trouble with the law in the past (hitting a woman while driving his vehicle and leaving the scene, she required 7 stitches and had a bruised hip), but now he will probably incur the wrath of the NFL because of his slip ups. I want to wait and see if more information comes out, but right now, it looks like this could get tossed out of court. The NFL may still punish him.
Is this an example of Driving While Black? Just concerned police? Have you heard anything different about this case?

Stupid Athlete Tricks Part 3

Mario Chalmers (15) and Darrell Arthur (00)
Talk about some stupid athletes. Every year as part of the program for getting NBA rookies ready for the vigor and the lifestyle of being an NBA player, each of the rookies is sent to the NBA Rookies Transition Program. They discuss things like finances, situations you probably don't want to get involved in, your hangers on, drug usage (and ways to get help), and just life when you're a target for many women and men with agendas. Two of this years attendees, Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur were thrown out of this program for violating program rules, (ahem),....they were caught with weed in their rooms. Now if this isn't some ignorant s%$*?! Mario Chalmers was drafted, at #34, by the Heat and has a very good opportunity to start as a rookie for a playoff bound team in the East. He played well in summer camp and everything has been going in this positive direction for him. Darrell Arthur was the guy that was dropping like a rock (rumor about bad kidneys or something) and ended up being drafted by the New Orleans (at #27), then traded to Portland, then traded to Houston, and finally ended up in Memphis by the end of the night. Both of these guys were on the National Championship Kansas Jayhawk team and both of them seemed like they were ready to make the transition to being pros. Then, both of them decide to blaze it up during the NBA Rookie Transition Program?!?!? Not only will it cost them probably $20K a piece, but that puts them on the front page of the paper and provides them with unneeded negative publicity. That had better been some good weed, cause it made both of them stupid. This is a great way to start that new gig guys,....everyone knows you blaze up and before you play a meaningful game. Why mess up your money over stupid stuff? If you're going to smoke,........wait until after the Transition Program when supposedly no one is watching you. Bill Self, call your boys!!!! I don't want them back on my list for Stupid Athlete Tricks.

Thanks to AverageBro for breaking the news.
