NFL 2010 Week 15 Wrap Up

Should be a decent week, but let's see.

San Francisco @ San Diego - Alex Smith, thank you for your time, but you've got to go.  Unfortunately, Mike Singletary will be traveling with Smith out of San Francisco.  The 49ers made a guy who has only been able to play in 3 games all year long look like an All-Pro.  The Chargers looked good behind Philip Rivers and Vincent Jackson.  Do the 49ers have to play next week?  I mean can they just forfeit the last two games?  Inquisitive Mind 1 - 0 for the week.

Cleveland @ Cincinnati - It was close, but the Bengals pulled this one out.  Time to blow up this team too.  Palmer (14 of 23 for 209 yards) was average, TO got hurt, Cedric Benson (31 carries, 150 yards, 1 TD) proved yet again that the best pass Palmer should be making is a hand off, and Chad Ochocinco (2 catches for 36 yards) has one year left on his deal.  Goodbye Marvin Lewis and Eric Mangini.  Inquisitive Mind 2 - 0 for the week.

Washington @ Dallas - The Cowboys' defense made Rex Grossman (25 of 43 for 322 yards, 4 TDs, 2 INTs) look like Tom Brady.  I just don't understand how a defense that is so talented can put up performances like this.  You have Kitna (25 of 37 for 305 yards, 2 TDs) playing pretty well (Romo stats almost) and this team can't stop a Div II football squad.  The big news out of Dallas is that they finally put Romo on IR.  Not sure why they were waiting since they've been out of the playoff hunt for several weeks.  Who's running this team?  Inquisitive Mind 3 - 0 for the week.

Houston @ Tennessee - I really meant the Titans and not the Texans (can I get away with that one?).  The Texans made just about everyone on the Titans offense look good with the exception of Randy Moss.  Chris Johnson (24 carries for 130 yards, 1 TD) returned to form and Kerry Collins (14 of 24 for 237 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT) looked like he was back at Penn State.  How can this Texans team not even get up for this game, when they badly needed this one to have some hope of making the playoffs?  Goodbye Gary Kubiak, it's been fun.  Inquisitive Mind 3 - 1 for the week.

Jacksonville @ Indianapolis - The Colts tried to give this game away and to my surprise, I thought the Jaguars were ready to take this win from them.  The Colts are still alive in the playoff hunt and Peyton Manning (29 of 39 for 229 yards, 2 TDs) looked like any talk of a slump shouldn't remain.  Can we say that the Colts found a way to run (Donald Brown - 14 carries for 129 yards, 1 TD) the ball in Week 15?  I guess it's never too late.  Austin Collie (8 catches for 87 yards, 2 TDs) had a great first half, but we have to assume that his 2010 year is over after sustaining his 3rd concussion of the year.  Inquisitive Mind 4 - 1 for the week.

Kansas City @ St. Louis - Cassel (15 of 29 for 184 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) was just good enough to get the Chiefs this win, but he leaned on Jamaal Charles (11 carries for 126 yards, 1 TD) a whole lot.  Can the chiefs win the AFC West?  Inquisitive Mind 5 - 1 for the week.

Buffalo @ Miami - The Bills have snuck yet another win for the year.  This was a bad game all around, and it may have ended the Tony Sparano era in Miami.  Inquisitive Mind 5 - 2 for the week.

Detroit @ Tampa Bay - What?!?!?  The Bucs may look back on their season about what could have been and this is one of those games that they'll look back on.  The Lions took overtime to beat them, but with Drew Stanton (23 of 37 for 252 yards, 1 TD) at the helm, the Bucs should have walked away with a win on this one.  I can say this, the Lions are showing everyone that it doesn't matter who's under center when you have talent in your backups.  Maurice Morris (15 carries for 109 yards, 1 TD) had a helluva game for the Lions too.  Inquisitive Mind 5 - 3 for the week.

Arizona @ Carolina - Well the day wasn't long and the Cardinals found a way to lose to possibly the worst team in the league.  The Cardinals proved that it does matter who's under center when you don't have anyone with talent in your backups.  Jonathan Stewart (27 carries for 137 yards) and Jimmy Clausen (13 of 19 for 141 yards, 1 TD) led the Panthers to their second win of the year.  Somebody please save Larry Fitzgerald (9 catches for 125 yards) from this type of humiliation?  Somebody please trade for him.  Inquisitive Mind 5 - 4 for the week.

New Orleans @ Baltimore - I'll start this off by saying, 'Ray Lewis, I'm sorry I bet against you'.  The Ravens in a surprise beat the Saints.  The Ravens jumped out to a 21-7 lead behind Ray Rice (31 carries for 153 yards, 1 TD, 5 catches for 80 yards, 1 TD) and finally the defense was able to close one out after being up big.  Why can't this Ravens' offense click better.  They have a bevy of receivers but for some reason, Boldin (1 catch for 2 yards) and Who'sYourMama (1 catch for 15 yards), can't get touches.  They are going to need that if they plan on beating the Patriots and any other team in the AFC.  Inquisitive Mind 5 - 5 for the week.

Philadelphia @ New York Giants - We are all Witnesses!!!  First of all, let's not get on the kicker Dodge for kicking to Jackson because he wasn't the reason the Giants lost.  The blame goes squarely on the offense (couldn't get 1st downs when the game was in question) and the defense (how does Maclin get THAT open twice at the end of a game).  Vick (21 of 35 for 242 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT, 10 carries for 130 yards, 1 TD, and more importantly no big hits taken) made it all look like a video game yet again and he's moving his Philadelphia Eagles into the playoffs and a possible #2 seed (gives Vick some time to rest).  The Giants have to want to crawl into a hole after giving up 28 points in a little over 8 minutes.  Inquisitive Mind 5 - 6 for the week.

Atlanta @ Seattle - Just a great all around performance and win for the Falcons.  They are 12-2 and I'm waiting for the playoffs to see if they will face the Eagles and a certain Mike Vick (it would only be right).  Inquisitive Mind 6 - 6 for the week.

New York Jets @ Pittsburgh - The Jets outlasted the Steelers to escape with this win.  If they wouldn't have pulled this one off, that football graveyard probably would have had a few people buried there.  The Steelers without Polamalu are like having a cheeseburger without the cheese, it's just not the same.  Shout out to the Jets defense for bending but not breaking.  Inquisitive Mind 7 - 6 for the week.

Denver @ Oakland - The Silver and Black at home with a balanced running (McFadden - 20 carries for 119 yards) and passing game (Campbell - 15 of 26 for 238 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs) get the win.  Inquisitive Mind 8 - 6 for the week.

Green Bay @ New England - The Packers put up more of a fight than expected, but in the end, too much Patriots.  No Rodgers, no chance.  Inquisitive Mind 9 - 6 for the week.

Chicago @ Minnesota - This was a mismatch even with Favre playing.  Cutler (14 of 24 for 194 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT) put in another good outing and the Bears won the NFC Central.  I'm STILL not sold.  That might get me hurt living in Chicago, but they haven't really beat anyone all year long.  The playoffs will show us exactly how good this team is.  Hopefully Favre retires before they have to carry him off the field in a coffin.  Inquisitive Mind 10 - 6 for the week.

10-6 ain't bad, but I had hoped for better.  Not sure if I can catch anyone, but I still have to try.  My record for the year is 134 - 89.

NFL 2010 Week 15 Picks

Very quick this week, the wife is rushing me.

Cleveland @ Cincinnati - The Battle of Ohio yet again.  The Browns won the first time, not sure they can do it twice.  Winner - Bengals.

Washington @ Dallas - Benched McNabb, start Grossman.  That sounds like the worst case scenario for the Redskins.  Winner - Cowboys.

Houston @ Tennessee - Texans need thsi win badly and the Titans will probably play well at home.  Tough one to call, but I gotta go with the Texans.  Winner - Texans

Jacksonville @ Indianapolis - This is it for the Colts.  They lose this game and they are out of the playoffs.  Talk about pressure and they are at home.  For some reason I think they win this one, even with a decimated roster.  Winner - Colts.

Kansas City @ St. Louis - The Chiefs need a win and hopefully Brodie Croyle doesn't touch the field except for warmups.  Winner - Chiefs.

Buffalo @ Miami - The Dolphins made life for the Jets terrible last week and Buffalo did the same for the Packers.  Which team shows up this weekend?  Winner - Dolphins.

Detroit @ Tampa Bay - The Bucs are looking for another win but they face a tough team in the Lions.  Kind of a toss up.  Winner - Bucs.

Arizona @ Carolina - Cardinals, all day long.  Winner - Cardinals.

New Orleans @ Baltimore - One of the AFC best against one of the NFC best .  This will be a tough game for the Ravens because they have to get to Brees to win.  Winner - Saints.

Philadelphia @ New York Giants - Vick gets another crack at the Giants defense that slowed him down a few weeks ago.  The difference will be each teams' running game.  Winner - Giants

Atlanta @ Seattle - No chance for the Seahawks.  Winner - Falcons.

New York Jets @ Pittsburgh - This will be a big game for the Jets to win.  No Polamalu for the Steelers and Big Ben still managing that foot.  Steelers are prime for an upset.  Winner - Jets.

Denver @ Oakland - The Silver and Black at home with a balanced running and passing game.  Winner - Raiders

Green Bay @ New England - No Rodgers, no chance.  Winner - Patriots.

Chicago @ Minnesota - Playing outside in the open air (in the cold), 3rd string QB starting for the Vikings, and we all know that the Bears are going to win, right?  Winner - Bears

Who you got?

NFL 2010 Week 15 Thursday Night Game

Rough week.  Still trying to catch my breath.

San Francisco @ San Diego - The 49ers need this game to stay in the hunt for the NFC West.  The Chargers need this game to stay in the hunt for the AFC West.  I can't believe that Alex Smith can duplicate last weeks' performance.  Chargers are without Gates, and they have their full compliment of running backs, and the 49ers are struggling with the health of their linebackers.  Winner - Chargers

NFL 2010 Week 14 Wrap Up

Indianapolis @ Tennessee - Peyton Manning (25 of 35 for 319 yards, 2 TDs) looked like he got back on track against the Titans this week.  He had some semblance of a running game, but it was really Manning looking good that got the Colts this win.  Kerry Collins (28 of 39 for 244 yards, 3 TDs) and Chris Johnson (22 carries for 111 yards, 1 TD, 8 rec for 68 yards) did what they could to keep the Titans in the game, but their defense was terrible.  This was definitely a good game, but better for the Colts as they look to put some pressure on division leading Jacksonville.  Inquisitive Mind 1 - 0 for the week.

Cleveland @ Buffalo - I guess this is the end of the Mangini era in Cleveland.  They had been playing well but then they lose to this terrible Bills team.  For some reason the Browns couldn't hold onto the ball (5 fumbles, 2 lost) and in a tight game, you can't turn the ball over.  Inquisitive Mind 1 - 1 for the week.

Cincinnati @ Pittsburgh - This game started well for the Bengals with a TD pass from Palmer to Andrew Whitworth, but from there it was all downhill.  The Steelers went on a 23-0 run and that was it.  Palmer (20 of 32 for 178 yards, 1 TD, 3 INTs) was doing his best to find Steelers defensive players when they were open, and Big Ben (21 of 33 for 258 yards) provided the catalyst for the Steelers on offense to get this one done.  As always, another good game from the Steelers and another bad game from the Bengals.  Inquisitive Mind 2 - 1 for the week.

Green Bay @ Detroit - The Lions finally won a big one.  It only took them knocking Aaron Rodgers out of the game.  After that, this looked like a bad pickup football game with no one really knowing the other people on their team.  My biggest question is why don't they teach QBs in Green Bay how to slide?  There's gotta be an out of work baseball player in Minnesota that can teach these guys how to slide and not take hits.  I'm just sayin'.  Inquisitive Mind 2 - 2 for the week.

Tampa Bay @ Washington - WOW!!!!  This was a back and forth game that the Redskins should have won.  It had to be heartbreaking, especially after fighting all the way back and scoring a TD with nothing left on the clock.  An extra point ties the game and we go into overtime, and then,........ missed extra point and it's all over including the crying.  Josh Freeman (15 of 25 for 266 yards, 1 TD) looked good again and shows that the Bucs got it right with their selection for their franchise QB.  Inquisitive Mind 3 - 2 for the week.

Atlanta @ Carolina - Wasn't really a contest.  Michael Turner (28 carries for 112 yards, 3 TDs) had a wonderful game and the Falcons are 11-2 and they are the best team that is flying under the radar right now.  They are truly a complete team with Ryan at QB, Turner at RB, White at WR, and a ball hawking defense.  If you haven't figured it out, the Falcons are real.  Inquisitive Mind 4 - 2 for the week.

Oakland @ Jacksonville - Good old fashioned shootout and the Raiders just ran out of bullets.  Jason Campbell 21 of 30 for 324 yards, 2 TDs), how can you look this good and then look so bad on certain days?  I can't put my finger on what makes him inconsistent.  I don't know what the Jaguars have done or whose soul they have sold, but they are a game away from winning their division and I doubt many outside of that locker room had even a remote idea that it was possible.  David Garrard (11 of 22 for 159 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT) had a nice game along with MJD (23 carries for 101 yards, 1 TD).  Inquisitive Mind 5 - 2 for the week.

Seattle @ San Francisco - My very bad pick made Alex Smith (17 of 27 for 255 yards, 3 TDs) look like he is actually a viable option for a team at the QB spot.  The sad part is that the 49ers have a chance to win their division.  There is something wrong with that, very wrong.  Inquisitive Mind 5 - 3 for the week.

St. Louis @ New Orleans - This was a team win for the Saints as they got ok play from Brees, but add in Michael Jenkins 2 INTs (one returned for a TD) and the Saints had a cakewalk.  I did think that the Rams could have pulled this one off, but alas, I was wrong.  Inquisitive Mind 6 - 3 for the week.

Miami @ New York Jets - What do you do after an a$$ whuppin?  Well, I guess you go back and get another.  The Jets looked terrible as they not only had a coach cheat, had several dropped balls, lost a lineman, and put themselves in a position to miss the playoffs.  Chad Henne threw for a total of 55 yards (1 TD), the Dolphins ran (as a team) for a total of 101 yards, and they also turned the ball over 3 times (lost fumbles) and they won the game.  Explain that to me.  I'm waiting.  Inquisitive Mind 6 - 4 for the week.

Denver @ Arizona - They scored how many points?  43?  Did Kurt Warner sneak into the game for the Cardinals?  Jay Feely (5 field goals, 1 TD run, 4 XPs for a total of 25 points) was responsible for how many points?  And he's the kicker?  This should have gotten the new Denver coach fired.  I'm sorry, this was a terrible outing.  Inquisitive Mind 6 - 5 for the week.

Kansas City @ San Diego - Hi Brodie Croyle, welcome to the pressure cooker.  And the pressure made Croyle (7 of 17 for 40 yards) pop or at least perform like a beaten up can.  Jamaal Charles (10 carries for 40 yards), fresh off of signing a new $32+M deal had a total of 40 yards.  Please get Matt Cassel healthy and back on the field.  I can't even believe I said that.  Inquisitive Mind 6 - 6 for the week.

New England @ Chicago - Are there awards for running the score up on opponents, because if there is, the Patriots get that award two weeks in a row.  The Patriots dominated the Bears at Soldier Field, in the snow.  This was a TKO at halftime when Brady (27 of 40 for 369 yards, 2 TDs) dropped that sweat pass into Branch's (8 recs for 151 yards, 1 TD) arms as he waltzed into the end zone with no time on the clock.  Note to Brian Urlacher, let your play do the talking.  Inquisitive Mind 7 - 6 for the week.

Philadelphia @ Dallas - This Eagles team is explosive on the offensive side of the ball, but they are truly a sieve on the defensive side of the ball.  Samuel didn't play for the Eagles and they NEED him back healthy if they want a punchers chance to get to the Superbowl.  Vick (16 of 26 for 270 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs) and McCoy (16 carries for 149 yards) showed up big time, but I was impressed with this Cowboys team too.  Kitna (24 of 35 for 242 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs) found Witten (7 recs for 69 yards, 2 TDs) on a few occasions and if the Dallas defense could have had a little more time, maybe, just maybe, they would have won this game.  Inquisitive Mind 8 - 6 for the week.

New York Giants @ Minnesota - Well the dome fell and so did the Brett Favre streak.  Maybe he should have played if this is the type of game Tavaris is going to give the Vikings.  I can't even blame it all on him because this one vaunted defense of the Vikings gave up 213 yards (Bradshaw 103 yards, Jacobs 116 yards) on the ground.  It's over this year for the Vikings and the long term plan just doesn't seem to be there.  Maybe they'll go after another old QB next year.  McNabb are you listening?  Inquisitive Mind 9 - 6 for the week.

Baltimore @ Houston - My main man Ray Lewis almost let the Texans come back and win that game.  The Ravens defense isn't as good as it once was and they will need to find some corners if they are going to do anything in the playoffs.  Flacco (22 of 33 for 235 yards, 2 TDs) and Mason (6 recs for 78 yards, 2 TDs) must have made up because they connected a lot last night.  I'm still worried about this team and their inability to make that offense work on a consistent basis.  It's another win though.  Inquisitive Mind 10 - 6 for the week.

Not a bad week and that brings the season total to 124 - 83.  Not too bad for an amateur.  But still in the chase.

NFL 2010 Week 14 Picks

Quick week again.  Let's get to the picks.

Cleveland @ Buffalo - The Browns are just playing too well.  The Bills are looking to have the worst record to possibly get a QB next year, via the draft.  Delhomme will get another start, so hopefully the old QB can get one more win out of him.  Winner - Browns

Cincinnati @ Pittsburgh - Tough division game.  The Bengals have been playing better the last two weeks, but the Steelers need to play well but minimize the hits to Big Ben.  I'll look for a lot of Mendenhall on the ground and then the Steelers defense to finish this one off.  Winner - Steelers

Green Bay @ Detroit - I like what the Lions have done in the past weeks, but they are going up against a team that has to win to try and keep pace with the Bears in the division.  It's indoor and the Packers HAVE to find a way to run the ball.  They are similar to the Colts, if they can get some semblance of a running game going, the Packers should have a cakewalk.  Winner - Packers

Tampa Bay @ Washington - This one is a tough one.  I will say that the Bucs are the better team but something about the Redskins sending Haynesworth home will galvanize this Redskins team.  I'm not even sure why that makes sense because he really hasn't played much the entire year.  I'm supposed to pick the Redskins, but I can't in good faith.  Winner - Bucs

Atlanta @ Carolina - Shouldn't be a contest.  The Panthers are that bad and the Falcons want this win to hopefully end up with the best record in the NFL.  Winner - Falcons

Oakland @ Jacksonville - This game is going to be close.  The Jaguars are showing everyone that they truly belong.  They have to win these games because the Colts looked energized and back on their good foot, with a mathematical chance to sneak up on the Jaguars and win the division.  Look for a lot of MJD and minimizing the mistakes on offense.  Winner - Jaguars.

Seattle @ San Francisco - Two very bad teams.  With news that the 49ers are going to start Alex Smith, they are making this pick easy for me.  What does Troy Smith have to do to start the remainder of the season?  Seattle in (hopefully) a blowout.  Winner - Seahawks

St. Louis @ New Orleans - This is a tough one.  The Rams have played well, but are they good enough to beat the Saints at home?  The Saints haven't blown anyone out in a while and this Rams team can run the ball well enough to keep them in the game.  Hmmmm,.......tough one,.....Winner - Saints

Miami @ New York Jets - What do you do after an a$$ whuppin?  Well, I guess we'll see when the Jets take the field on Sunday.  Miami needs help at the QB spot, because Henne probably isn't the answer.  Jason Taylor is looking to play more in this game since he'll be playing against his former team (Dolphins) and I expect him to wreak havoc.  Winner - Jets

Denver @ Arizona - Kyle Orton, it's time to get back on the horse.  Orton had a nice few games of throwing for over 300 yards a game and last week was pitiful.  Arizona is just that bad so I expect a big game from Lloyd and Orton.  Winner - Broncos

Kansas City @ San Diego - Hi Brodie Croyle, welcome to the pressure cooker.  The Chargers are looking to make their normal push into the playoffs with the loss last week being a slight blow, but beating the Chiefs would be a pretty big deal if they can pull it off.  Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones, I hope that you've rested those legs.  Winner - Chiefs

New England @ Chicago - There's snow on the ground and more coming.  All in all I don't think that will be an issue for either team.  The question is how do you beat a Tampa 2 defense?  You dink and dunk the ball up and down the field.  Does that tell you who I'm picking?  Winner - Patriots

Philadelphia @ Dallas - The Cowboys are playing inspired ball and this will definitely be a test for their defense with the Eagles coming to town.  Remember that the Bears 'stopped' Vick and he still threw for 300 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT, and ran for another TD.  The Eagles just need this game too bad to lose this one.  No Dez Bryant for the Cowboys and the Eagles get Samuel back.  Winner - Eagles

New York Giants @ Minnesota - If this game is played, yes I say that because more snow expected in the midwest and the dome can't be cleaned off with the high winds that are presently blowing through the Land of 10,000 lakes.  It will get played at some point, but I doubt Monday.  Anyway, this gives Favres shoulder a chance to heal (maybe God is a Favre fan) which may or may not be a good thing.  The Vikings need this win, but I think for some reason the Giants find a way to win this game.  Winner - Giants

Baltimore @ Houston - My main man Ray Lewis takes his Ravens team to Houston.  Houston is a dangerous team because of their balance on the ground and in the air.  I've been waiting for Flacco to have a breakout game, more importantly having that big game with Anquan Boldin.  Will this be the night?  Closer game than most think, but again, in Ray I trust.  Winner - Ravens.

Kyrie Irving Done For the Year?

After dispatching Bradley last night in what seemed more like a scrimmage against a D-II team, the Duke Blue Devils might be faced with their biggest issue this year and that is the health of their star point guard, Kyrie Irving.  Irving injured his toe a few games ago and supposedly it was turf toe.  If you don't know what turf toe is, check here, but all I can say is that it's painful.  The only way to treat turf toe is rest and possibly surgery after the inflammation goes down.  That's the rub.  This Duke team is being talked about as not only going undefeated, but in some circles winning the NCAA title again this year.  That goal gets a lot tougher without Irving.  Irving (and Coach K) also have to keep in mind his NBA goals because no one wants this injury to linger and cause Irving problems at the next level.  Worst case scenario, Irving sits out the year and starts next year with Curry, Dawkins, and Austin Rivers (WOW!!).

NBA 2010 12-8-10 Wrap Up

Denver @ Boston - The Celtics are moving along without all of the controversy and notoriety that you see in LA and Miami, and that's just where they want to be.  Without Carmelo playing the Nuggets could keep up with the Celtics despite a big game from Ty Lawson (24 pts, 7 asts, 2 rebs, 3 stls, in 34 minutes) off the bench.  The Celtics were paced by Jesus Shuttlesworth (Ray Allen) and his effortless shooting (28 pts, 5 rebs, and 4 asts).  When you add in Rondo (13 asts), Garnett (17 pts, 9 rebs), and Pierce (17 pts, 3 rebs, 4asts) you can easily see why this is the team to beat in the East come playoff time.  Other than an almost altercation between Nene and Big Baby (I'm sure someone will get a fine for that one) and KG's brief discussion with George Karl after the game (about Garnett's cancerous statement to Charlie Villanueva) this was pretty much a no contest.  Next up for the Celtics are the 76ers and for the Nuggets the Knicks.

Chicago @ Cleveland - Are we all just piling on the Cavaliers?  The Bulls went in to Cleveland and came from behind to beat a game Cavs team.  As usual, Derrick Rose (29 pts, 8 asts, 4 rebs) along with Joakim Noah (13 pts, 14 rebs) led the Bulls as Carlos Boozer (4 pts, 3 rebs) had a stinker in his old Cleveland home.  Just for a second, imagine this,......Boozer and LBJ in Cleveland with Big Z, and some shooters around them.  That's exactly what the Cavs needed, but as we all know, that is just a dream.  The Cavs were led Antawn (don't call him Antwan) Jamison (21 pts, 6 rebs) but the Cavs bench (8 pts on 3 of 15 shooting) wasn't able to make a shot for the majority of the night.  The Cavs are 7-15 and it's looking real bad (if it wasn't already) for this franchise.  Note to Clevelanders, yes LBJ left, the WAY he did it was wrong, but if you want to blame someone, start looking Dan Gilberts' way.  He is the owner and should have had a plan on what to do if/when LBJ left.  AND, if LBJ was all of the things that Gilbert said he was (after LBJ left) then he definitely should have had a plan in place for life after LBJ.  Just my two cents.  Up next for the Bulls, the Lakers.  For the Cavs, they get to play the Houston Rockets.

Los Angeles Lakers @ Los Angeles Clippers - Derek Fisher!!!  The Lakers ran into a rather pesky bunch of young Clippers last night.  The Clippers were the more physical team and they also showed just how athletic they are when they have Jordan (9 pts, 11 rebs) and Griffin (16 pts, 11rebs) on the floor together.  In the end, the young bunch fell to the old men on a last second layup by Derek Fisher.  Not sure if Bledsoe (11pts, 7 asts, 4 rebs) forgot but Fisher (6pts, 4 rebs, 2 asts, 2 stls) is a lefty, who likes driving left, and Bledsoe played his right hand with time ticking away.  Kobe (24 pts, 4asts, 2 rebs) led the way for the Lakers with an efficient 9 of 15 shooting preformance (5 of 7 from the line).  The Lakers are still the cream of the crop in the NBA, but they may have some trouble with this Clippers team when they play them again.  Quietly, Shannon Brown (16 pts, 5 rebs, 2 asts, 1 stl, in 17 minutes) has become a very reliable scorer, defender, or whatever this team needs off the bench.  Could you imagine him in a Bulls uniform?  The Bulls are up next for the Lakers and the Clippers get the Grizzlies next.

Miami @ Utah - I'm not going to jump on the Heat bandwagon like everyone else (I've actually never gotten off) as everyone writes stories about the team gelling, but they did look good last night and they will get better.  I've said this before, once they get Chalmers (8 pts, 3 asts, 2 rebs, 2 stls, +16 when he's on the floor) back to playing like he was last year and put Arroyo (0 pts, 1 to, 1 stl in 23 minutes) back on the bench and they get Miller back (with a fully healed wrist) that this team will be dangerous.  LBJ (33 pts, 9 asts, 7 rebs, on 12 of 20 shooting) and Wade (28 pts, 4 rebs, 4 asts on 9 of 14 shooting, 8 of 11 from the line) played well together last night and even some of the Jazz players were saying that they might be close to putting it all together.  Utah got an impressive performance from Deron Williams (21 pts, 12 asts, 4 rebs, 1 blk), but it wasn't enough as the Heat held on late for a 13 point win.  Moose, the Heat have won 6 in a row and you've gotten WAY too quiet.  The Heat will run with the Warriors in their next game and the Jazz get Orlando (coming off a back to back).

NBA 2010 Week 14 Picks Thursday Night Game

Thursday Night Football seems to come quicker and quicker each week.  Let's see what's on tap.

Indianapolis @ Tennessee - Just what Peyton Manning needed, a bad pass defense to face.  Manning has struggled mightily this year, and especially the last 4 weeks.  Yes, he's pressing but some of it is because his main targets are on the sidelines in street clothes.  I've always said that receivers help make a QB and vice versa, but this is the ultimate case (Elway is the exception).  Manning only has Wayne as his proven receiver on the field and we're down to 3rd string tight ends and 2nd string receivers.  These guys don't have the experience with Peyton to 'know' where he wants them to be.  Manning has also gotten that tunnel vision where he won't pull a Tom Brady (dink and dunk), but he's more Jay Cutler (looking for the big play).  If the Colts can run the ball, just a little bit, they should be able to win this game easily.  The Titans are still without Vince Young and I have never had confidence in Kerry Collins.  Winner - Titans.

NFL 2010 Week 13 Wrap Up

Should be another good week, the Eagles started us off with a win, so let's see what else happened.

Philadelphia @ Houston - Wrap up hereInquisitive Mind 1 - 0 for the week

New Orleans @ Cincinnati - And for a second I thought that the Bengals were going to upset the Saints.  The Bengals used some timely running by Cedric Benson (19 carries for 49 yards, 2 TDs) to pull ahead of the Saints, but just like that Drew Brees (24 of 29 for 313 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT) led his team down the field to a win in the last minute.  This has been a microcosm of the Bengals season, just good enough to not win.  At least they can say that most of the team showed up, but the dynamite is already set around the foundation of this team.  Only 4 more weeks till they detonate.  Impressive game by Chris Ivory (15 carries for 117 yards, 2 TDs) for the Saints who now look more dangerous than ever.  Inquisitive Mind 2 - 0 for the week.

Chicago @ Detroit - Again?  The Lions got jobbed again by a questionable call.  I will say this again, the Bears are THE luckiest team in the league this year.  They put together a good enough game, excuse me, great game by Jay Cutler (21 of 26 for 234 yards, 1 TD, more importantly only 1 turnover) and the defense was able stop Drew Stanton (a 3rd string QB).  I am just not sold on the Bears, don't know what it is, but they keep winning.  Inquisitive Mind 3 - 0 for the week.

San Francisco @ Green Bay - Aaron Rodgers (21 of 30 for 298 yards, 3 TDs) once again turned into Superman and put the Packers on his back.  James Starks was able to gain 73 yards on the ground to give the Packers a semblance of a running game.  No running game for the 49ers spelled doom and not only for the season but for Mike Singletary's job.  Inquisitive Mind 4 - 0 for the week.

Jacksonville @ Tennessee - MJD (31 carries for 186 yards) had a monster game where he almost out gained the entire Titans offense (190 yards vs. 220 yards).  Nuff said.  The Jaguars are leading their division and looking good going down the stretch.  Inquisitive Mind 5 - 0 for the week.

Denver @ Kansas City - Matt Cassel (17 of 31 for 196 yards, 1 TD) and Jamaal Charles (21 carries for 116 yards) led a balanced Chiefs attach while Kyle Orton (9 of 28 for 117 yards) reverted to some of his worst Bears games and the Chiefs escaped with this ugly win. The Chiefs can make this very interesting in the AFC if they win their division.  They have shown the ability to put points on the board or win knock'em out drag'em out games like this.  They have a good running game with Charles and Jones and a decent QB when Cassel shows up.  Inquisitive Mind 6 - 0 for the week.

Cleveland @ Miami - Cleveland found a way to win when Peyton Hillis (18 carries for 57 yards) was stopped most of the game and Delhomme (24 of 34 217 yards, 1 TD) for  was their go to guy.  It really helped matters that Chade Henne threw 3 picks, but the Browns found a way to close out the Dolphins with a Phil Dawson field goal as time expired.  If this Browns team actually had a QB, they might be dangerous.  Still the city of Cleveland is 0-2 against Miami this fall.  Inquisitive Mind 7 - 0 for the week.

Buffalo @ Minnesota - Favre got hurt and Tavaris Jackson finally got some meaningful reps in a game.  Jackson (15 of 22 for 187 yards, 2 TDs, 3 INTs) had a decent game, but the Vikings depended on the running game behind Peterson (16 carries for 107 yards, 3 TDs) and Gerhart (12 carries for 54 yards) for the win against the Bills.  This is the way they should have been playing all year long, making the run a priority and then passing when they needed to.  Mathematically the Vikings aren't out of the playoffs, so there is some hope.  Inquisitive Mind 8 - 0 for the week.

Washington @ New York Giants - The Giants scored so quickly and often I thought this was a misprint as the score came across the ticker.  The Giants got great games from Ahmad Bradshaw (25 carries for 97 yards, 2 TDs) and Brandon Jacobs (8 carries for 103 yards, 2 TDs) and I could have played QB for the Giants and we still would have won this game.  I will again say this, Eli Manning is an average QB, albeit one with a Superbowl ring, but average none the less.  Great Giants defense in this game too.  If they get on a roll, the NFC is going to be exciting in the playoffs.  Inquisitive Mind 9 - 0 for the week.

Oakland @ San Diego - Jason Campbell (10 of 16 for 117 yards, 1 TD) didn't have a great game, but he did what he had to do to manage this Raiders team to a win.  Again, great ground game by Bush (23 carries for 95 yards, 1 TD) and McFadden (19 carries for 97 yards, 1 TD) to go along with a good Raiders defensive game.  The Chargers came into this game smelling themselves (they always start late and then start winning games in December to make the playoffs) but they didn't have that magic that they normally do.  This could be the end of the Norv Turner years in San Diego.  Ron Rivera, you may have just gotten your chance to be a head coach.  Inquisitive Mind 10 - 0 for the week.

Carolina @ Seattle - Two bad teams.  One had to win, sorry Panthers.  John Fox you deserve better.  When you look at the stats, you really can't tell which team won.  Now that's bad football. Inquisitive Mind 11 - 0 for the week.

Atlanta @ Tampa Bay - GREAT game.  The Bucs are hungry and they played tough but one bad throw by Freeman ended this game.  The Bucs gave the Falcons all they could handle, but in the end the resilient Falcons notched another 'W'.  Freeman (19 of 38 for 181 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) and Ryan (18 of 36 for 205 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs) and Blount (20 carries for 103 yards, 1 TD) and Turner (24 carries for 88 yards, 1 TD) had very similar games, so it really came down to field position and that late INT for Freeman.  I wouldn't want to play this Bucs team in the playoffs.  They have learned how to win in a short time and they have a pretty damn good young QB.  Inquisitive Mind 12 - 0 for the week.

St. Louis @ Arizona - Well, the Cardinals used all 3 of their QBs and it still didn't matter.  The Rams were led by Steven Jackson (28 carries for 102 yards, 1 TD) and they are now 6-6 and they are leading their division.  That says a lot about that division, but the Rams are going to the playoffs.  Think about that for a few minutes.  Inquisitive Mind 13 - 0 for the week.

Dallas @ Indianapolis - You've got to be kidding me.  The Cowboys won this game?  As I sat there and watched it I was amazed that Manning was not able to take advantage of that Cowboys secondary.  They were down to practice players (not really, but close) at one point.  You can tell that Manning is pressing and making bad decisions when you take a look at his 4 INT game.  He needs those receivers that he has to be healthy and right now, their health and the lack, well non existent running game is putting way to much pressure on 'The Machine'.  It's over for the Colts, no playoffs this year.  Inquisitive Mind 13 - 1 for the week.

Pittsburgh @ Baltimore - This was more of a sloppy game than I thought it would be.  The Ravens offense had several opportunities but they just didn't look good last night.  For some reason when they are on offense I sit there and say, 'they aren't going to move the ball', just not inspired by their offense.  Even with the game on the line, they should have at least tied that game last night but Flacco wafted a pass that fell short to a wide open receiver.  The Ravens have got to be smarting from this game.  Inquisitive Mind 13 - 2 for the week.

New York Jets @ New England - That was an old fashioned a$$ whuppin.  Tom Brady (21 of 29 for 326 yards, 4 TDs) looked like the NFL MVP in this game with his stellar performance and the Patriots put themselves at the top of the discussion about who will be representing the AFC in the Superbowl.  What happened to the brash New York Jets?  Inquisitive Mind 14 - 2 for the week.

Great week on the picks with only the Ravens and Cowboys letting me down.  I'm 114 - 77 for the year and gaining some ground as the season pushes toward a close.
