NBA 2010 NBA Rookie of the Year Race

Well, we've really been letting this one slide all year long, because some guy in LA has pretty much made this whole ROY race a runaway.  Here's what my boy NYSTOM has, and we don't even have to have him drug tested after writing this one. 

1. Blake Griffin, LAC---22.8 ppg, 12.7 rpg, 3.6 apg, 51.8 FG% in 37.6 minutes per game
2. Landry Fields, NYK---10.1 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 1.9 apg, 52.3 FG% in 32.1 minutes per game
3. John Wall, WAS---15.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 9.3 apg, 40.0 FG% in 37.3 minutes per game
4. DeMarcus Cousins, SAC---13.5 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 1.8 apg, 43.2 FG% in 26.3 minutes per game
5. Ed Davis, TOR---6.5 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 0.4 apg, 58.1 FG% in 21.6 minutes per game



I will say that I am surprised to see Ed Davis on this list.  I for one, thought that his injury earlier in the year would derail his chances to even have a decent first year.  For being a Dukie apologist, I have love for this Carolina man's talent.  Now if he could just go in a room and put on about 25 pounds, he'd be a beast.    

NBA 2010 Rookie of the Year Watch

The NBA season is underway and as usual we have a new pool of rookies to evaluate.  We all know that many have John Wall pegged as the rookie of the year but we also have as many people on the Blake Griffin train.  At this point, I gotta agree with the two of them being interchangeable 1 and 2 on the list, but we’ll track and see who else may show up on the list. 

John Wall, WAS	18.1 ppg	4.0 rpg	9.8 apg	43.9 FG% in 39.1 minutes per game
Blake Griffin, LAC	16.1 ppg	10.2 rpg	1.9 apg	47.9 FG% in 34.9 minutes per game

Where’s DeMarcus Cousins?  Armon Johnson shouldn’t be on this list.  Landry Fields is surprising me and I think everyone in NYC.    

NYSTOM Rookie Of The Year 2-19-09

Well, you saw my take on the Rookies, let's see what NYSTOM thought.

1. Derrick Rose, CHI---17.0 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 6.3 apg, 47.3 FG% in 36.8 minutes per game

2. Marreese Speights, PHI---8.2 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 0.4 apg, 53.6 FG% in 15.5 minutes per game

3. Brook Lopez, NJN---12.3 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 0.8 apg, 50.8 FG% in 29.9 minutes per game

4. Greg Oden, POR---9.0 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 0.7 apg, 56.8 FG% in 22.9 minutes per game

5. Michael Beasley, MIA---13.3 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 0.9 apg, 45.5 FG% in 24.3 minutes per game

Who's right? I'm not scared to go up against NYSTOM. Is there someone that we left off?

NYSTOM Rookie Report

Well, as a member of the Melting Pot staff and a contributor here, my guy NYSTOM is at it again. He has put together his Rookie Report thus far and projected this out to prognosticate who will be receiving the Rookie of the Year Award. All I have to say is that he's a strong guy and opinionated so I'll have to let him stand with his calls. Here it is, and I'm sure this will provide many with material to go at him.

We'll start off with the easiest one (in my mind),............

1. Derrick Rose - CHI (18.9 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 5.6 apg, 46.8 fg%, 38.3 mpg)

To me this is heads and shoulders pick for ROY of the year so far. Yes, there have been people that may have scored more (Mayo, Beasley), but this guy is THE main cog for a bad Bulls team. He brings it every night and produces. He's already working on his jumper, and if that becomes a weapon, the sky is the limit for him.

2. Ryan Anderson - NJN (9.1 ppg, 3.9 rpg, .6 apg, 56.7 fg%, 16.6 mpg)

Anderson has shown, in limited time that those California guys (Leon Powe included) can't be slept on. He has played well and had a career night (yeah, any night is a career night when you're a rookie) against the Hawks with 17 points and 5 boards (4-5 fg, 6-6 free throws, including 3 three pointers).

3. JaVale McGee - WAS (9.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg, .2 apg, 53.8 fg%, 19.8 mpg)

The Washington Wizards are hurting right now with injuries, but this is giving McGee a chance to play. Many thought he would have been the first person chosen had he had that 'killer' in him and a work ethic to go along. To go along with those stats above he's averaging a little more than a block per game. Brenden Haywood is probably on his way out the door in Washington, so McGee could be the Wizards center of the future.

4. Jason Thompson - SAC (11.7 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.0 apg, 58.3 fg%, 24.7 mpg)

One of the sleepers of the draft, Thompson has delivered for a very bad Sacramento Kings team. He's getting on the floor and he's able to score in the paint but the thing that helps him is his legs. The guy runs the floor like a faster version of Chris Webber. In that up and down style that the Kings play this guy is going to put up his numbers. Good solid rookie who's got some room to grow.

5. Michael Beasley - MIA (16.7 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.6 apg, 45.7 fg%, 34.2 mpg)

In my mind the guy the Bulls should have picked, but that's old news. Right now Beasley is helping the Heat stay above water and respectable. He is able to score inside and outside at will and has even shown that he can play defense at some point in his career. Right now he's getting more playing time with the Matrix out, but they seem to but the same type of player right now. Beasley will continue to put up numbers and I think will definitely move up this list as the season ages.
