I've been busy and hopefully you have too with the celebration of Christmas and New Years. Lots has happened since my last post, so let's try and touch all the bases.
Boston Celtics - KG is hurt again. How long is he out? This is the last thing that the Celtics need because he is their anchor on defense and the Celtics have shown that they don't win without him. Good luck getting well KG, we want to see you healthy and back on the floor.
Miami Heat - Uh oh, all of that Heat bashing has been quiet as of late as the Heat go 15-1 in the month of December. The Lakers have shown some flaws, the Celtics have some injuries, the Magic aren't gelling just yet, and other than the Spurs, the Heat are looking good. We'll see if they can take the East.
Mike Haywood - Fired after 2 1/2 weeks for a felony domestic battery charge. Sad, because he was a rising star in the college coaching ranks. He did a great job for Nick Saban and the future was bright. Hopefully this felony charge is just made up. Please don't let me see pictures.
Ohio State Football - What in the hell is Jim Tressel thinking? Either you have the nuts to sit the kids or you play the kids. Don't have them take some silly oath in order to play. Of course all of them are going to do it, and then they are going pro. What are you going to do then, try and run them into the ground over a 'character' issue. This is some BS, and I've lost some respect for Tressel over this. These kids sold items that they won or were given. It's their property and them selling it (even if it was for tatoos) is their business. NCAA get a life.
Duke University Basketball - Coack K passes Dean Smith on the wins list. Great achievement for a great guy who seems to run a clean program. When you really look at the people that hate him, it's probably because they wonder how he gets such top talent to go to Duke and to play 'team' ball and sacrifice their individual stats or identity to make the Duke program better. Maybe, just maybe Coach K is a Jedi. Congrats again.
Minnesota Vikings - On the verge of giving Leslie Frazier the keys to the Vikings team. I think that's a good hire, but they are going to need a QB too. I like Webb in his limited time, but being a 16 game starter is a big difference from 1 start. Lots of work in Minny to do, but Frazier is as good as any to get the job done.
Houston Texans - Instead of firing Kubiak there are rumors that they will bring in the former Dallas Cowboys head coach, Wade Phillips, as defensive coordinator. Not sure if I like that because this team hasn't responded to Kubiak down the stretch for the past 2 years. They do need a new defensive identity, but something about this just seems wrong.
Fred Taylor - This may finally be it for the All-Pro running back. He is contemplating retirement and I think it's time. He's had problems with injuries this year and with the Law Firm (Ben Jarvis-Green-Ellis) and the Little Guy (Woodhead), it's hard to see Taylor seeing the field. If he does call it quits, Taylor leaves the game with a little over 11,600 yards and 66 TDs. I always remember him as a Jaguar.
What else have I missed?
I am an avid sports fan, here to talk about sports and anything else that I feel I need to expound on. Just my thoughts on paper, or a reasonable facsimile. Enjoy!!!

NFL 2010 Week 13 Thursday Night Wrap Up
Houston @ Philadelphia - This game lived up to the billing. No Asante Samuel for the Eagles so this was a shootout. Both offenses played pretty well with both former Atlanta Falcons QBs, Schaub (22 of 36 for 337 yard, 2 TDs, 1 INT) and Vick (22 of 33 for 302 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT, 1 rush TD), playing pretty well. The Eagles have to find a way to stop people or they are going to find themselves in a lot more shootouts. I feel bad for the Texans because this was supposed to be 'THE YEAR' and after they beat the Colts the first time around that sentiment got turned up a notch. They are now 5-7 and it's pretty much over for them. There will be some house cleaning done in Houston this summer. On another note, Mike Vick should win the MVP. He's got my vote. Inquisitive Mind 1 - 0 for the week.

NFL 2010 Week 10 Wrap Up
I am really not looking forward to this one. As I watched the games yesterday I just felt worse and worse as I thought about the teams I picked. Please avert your eyes, this could get ugly.
Ravens @ Falcons - Wrap up is here. Inquisitive Mind 0 - 1 for the week.
Ravens @ Falcons - Wrap up is here. Inquisitive Mind 0 - 1 for the week.
Detroit @ Buffalo – Well I leaned towards the Lions and I got bit. This was in fact an ugly game but the Bills looked hungry and wound up winning this one. Fred Jackson did his best OJ Simpson impersonation with a 25 carry, 133 yard, 1 TD performance and that was the difference. The Lions got a great game from Shaun Hill (29 of 50 for 323, 1 TD, 1 INT) but his two point conversion pass that sailed out of the end zone was the dagger. Quick question: Why do you not just lob the ball in the air if the other team can't get any points for intercepting the ball (and returning for a TD), instead of throwing it out of bounds? Maybe it's just me. Inquisitive Mind 0 - 2 for the week.
Minnesota @ Chicago – The Bears actually played pretty well for the majority of this game. I still have questions. 1) Why do you try to incorporate Hester in the offense when he's best served as a return man. At one point yesterday, Hester had over 150 return yards, but then got dinged up on an offense play for 5 yards. If the Bears got a #1 receiver, they would be much better off. Favre looked bad yesterday with 4 turnovers. Two weren't his fault (slipping receivers), but I am still questioning the lack of creativity with the Vikings offense. Is it me or do they have about 20 plays, and about 7 of them look the same? The good news is that the Bears won, but the bad news is that the Bears won. If they aren't careful, Lovie is going to be retained for another 3 years. As of right now Childress is still employed, but the clock is starting to tick on him. Inquisitive Mind 0 - 3 for the week.
New York Jets @ Cleveland – Cleveland might be for real, at least next year. They gave the Jets everything they could handle. I thought that the younger Ryan had his defense ready for the Jets and one or two plays going the other way would have given the Browns the win. I will say this, I'm not sure what has happened to the Jets or their bravado, but something better change quick or they are in trouble. Inquisitive Mind 1 - 3 for the week.
Carolina @ Tampa Bay – Bucs win, Bucs win. Can the Panthers go down a division to 5A or something? They look awful and it's only week 10. There's a lot more work that needs to be done to this franchise and based on how they have performed this year, I'm not sure any of the high profile coaches want this job. LeGarrette Blount turned in another good outing with his 19 carry, 91 yards and 1 TD performance. Also, because it's been mentioned here before, Josh Freeman is the real deal. Inquisitive Mind 2 - 3 for the week.
Houston @ Jacksonville – Put a fork in the Texans. They are officially done and I think that I am officially done with them. How in the world do you play as hard as they did and come thisclose to overtime, only to knock the ball into the hands of your opponent at the 1 yard line and watch him walk in for the game winner? I think that the Jaguars need to check the souls on their team because someone has already sold theirs' to continue to get wins like this. Inquisitive Mind 2 - 4 for the week.
Cincinnati @ Indianapolis – Arrrrgh!!!! How quickly can you get rid of an organization? This is something that the Bengals need to look in to. They played pretty well, but in the end, they gave the game away, literally with a fumble. I imagine that we'll start hearing some TO chatter in the next few days as the Bengals season is pretty much on ice. Inquisitive Mind 2 - 5 for the week.
Tennessee @ Miami – 1 catch for Moss and the rest of the Titans didn't even show up. The Dolphins lost two QBs in this game and the Titans still couldn't beat them. Think about that for a second. Inquisitive Mind 2 - 6 for the week.
Kansas City @ Denver – What I said on Friday 'AFC Rivalry in the Mile High City. We know a few things: 1) Kyle Orton will throw for 300+ yards 2) Charles will have 20-25 carries for 100+ yards 3) Bowe will drop 2 passes 4) Cassel will make us question his $60M contract 5) Brandon Lloyd will make every Bears fan cringe has he catches passes from Orton for TDs (about 2 this game). In the end, this one is coming down to a kicker.' Ok, 1) Orton threw for 296 yards. 2) 14 carries for 41 yards 3) 13 catches for 186 yards, 2 TDs 4) Cassel was 33 of 53 for 469 yards, 4 TDs 5) Lloyd, 6 catches for 90 yards and 2 TDs. The only thing that was way out of wack was that this would come down to a kicker. The only question was whether Prater's leg was going to actually fall off as the Broncos scored at will. Inquisitive Mind 2 - 7 for the week.
Dallas @ New York Giants – The Cowboys played with a pulse and they (gulp) won a game. Jerry Jones is probably somewhere smiling, although I think he wishes he would have pulled the plug on Wade Phillips about 4 weeks ago. Jon Kitna looked like Tony Romo (minus the brace) and had a 327 yard, 3 TDs, 1 INT outing. The Cowboys played well on defense and they even gained over 100 yards rushing. The Giants came out and played like the Gnats. Manning was average and the defense, which had been beast over the last few weeks, gave up points quickly. Are the 'Boys back? Inquisitive Mind 2 - 8 for the week.
Seattle @ Arizona – This is depressing. The Seahawks woke up and brought it to the Cardinals. Hasselbeck played ok, but this was more of a team win without any one person, Mike Williams being the exception (11 catches for 145 yards). Inquisitive Mind 2- 9 for the week.
St. Louis @ San Francisco – I guess Troy Smith should have been an option as the starter for the 49ers from game 1. He's not the best QB, but he gets the job done and it seems as though this 49ers team responds to him. Thank you Troy Smith for giving me at least 1 other win this week. Inquisitive Mind 3 - 9 for the week.
New England @ Pittsburgh – Belicheat schemed and the Patriots whooped some butt. They dominated the Steelers (strange to write that) from the jump. Tom Brady and his long flowing hair had a great game, 350 yards and 3 TDs. What was more impressive is that the Patriots were able to stop the Steelers from running the ball, holding the team to under 100 yards. Inquisitive Mind 3 - 10.
Philadelphia @ Washington – Wow!!! There's not much you can say about the performance that Mike Vick had last night. In one game he 1) showed us all how good he is and could have been. Remember, this is a guy only 1 year removed from being in jail for 18 months. 2) that he can play the QB position and well. Vick has never been known for his accuracy, but last night I'm not sure that I've seen anyone better. 3) Mike Vick just got Mike Vick P-A-I-D. He's going to have to get some Peyton Manning/Tom Brady money for not only last night, but his performance all year. 4) Mike Vick is now one of the people in the running for the NFL MVP. Can you imagine it, from sugar to isht and back to sugar in 2 1/2 years. Vick final stat line: 20 of 28, for 333 yards, 4 TDs (passing), 8 rushes for 80 yards, 2 TDs (rushing). Not only that but he saved a baby from choking, rescued a bear, and sold popcorn at FedEx Field during the 4th quarter. Inquisitive Mind 4 - 10 for the week.
It was a terrible week that puts me at 77-66 for the year. I'm looking at everyone's back so hopefully I can have the memory of an NFL corner and I'll just forget week 10. I need to, but after Vick's performance last night it really doesn't even matter.

NFL 2010 Week 10 Picks
Starting off 0 - 1 this week with the Ravens/Falcons game. Let's see what happens the rest of the week.
Detroit @ Buffalo – This is definitely going to be an ugly game. The Bills may mess around and get their first win. Shaun Hill should get the start for the Lions with Stafford hurt and that defense has been playing pretty well as of late. This is really a coin flip, but I have to lean towards the Lions on this one. Don’t know why. Winner – Lions.
Minnesota @ Chicago – Whew!!!! This is a Job game for both head coaches. If the Bears lose, that’ll mean that Lovie is one step closer to being out the door. If the Vikings lose, that may end their playoff hopes and send Chilly on out the door on Monday morning. The Vikings are thin at WR as Harvin continues to battle migraines and they slowly bring Rice along. That means more time for former Bears castoff Bernard Berrian to do work. I don’t know if he’s up for it. I imagine that the Vikings will allow Favre to call the game from under center in hopes of catching the Bears asleep at the wheel. Winner – Vikings.
New York Jets @ Cleveland – I picked against this bad Browns team two weeks in a row and they ended up winning. Dare I pick them again? The Jets need to win this game badly and make Rex Ryan’s brother rue the day he was born (hahahahaha). The Browns have been up to the challenge as of late but it’s too late in the season for the better teams to lose to the bad ones. Winner – Jets.
Carolina @ Tampa Bay – This is how bad it’s become for the Panthers. I can’t even waste time talking about them because I just know that they are going to lose this game. In Tampa? Against a decent defense and no running game. Watch them run all over the Bucs and make me cry in my cereal. Winner – Bucs.
Houston @ Jacksonville – I can’t believe that Garrard can play better than he did against the Cowboys again. They are at home, but Houston has got to get back on track or they are going to be bridesmaids in their division yet again. It’s time for that Texans defense to get down right Walker Texas Ranger on somebody. Arian Foster will also need a big game. Winner – Texans.
Cincinnati @ Indianapolis – One bad team (Bengals) against a decent team (Colts) at home. Collie is still out, and Manning doesn’t look that comfortable with his version of the Replacements. He’s so used to being on the same page with his receivers, but with all their injuries, it just makes it hard and you can see he’s not comfortable. The Bengals are on a fast ship going nowhere as it seems that Carson Palmer only has love for T.O. Chad Ochocinco has been relegated to a highly paid cheerleader who doesn’t like what he’s seeing. He’s gotta have a big game sometime soon. Maybe this weekend? Winner – Bengals.
Tennessee @ Miami – Hello Randy Moss, again!!!!! The Titans come to Miami to show off their new offense and I expect the fireworks to pop. I had the same expectations for Moss in Minny, but Fisher is a much better coach and they have a much better play caller. Miami will play them tough, but with the revolving door at QB on a constant spin, no one can really pick the Dolphins. Winner – Titans.
Kansas City @ Denver – AFC Rivalry in the Mile High City. In the end, this one is coming down to a kicker. Who you got? Winner – Chiefs.
Dallas @ New York Giants – How bad can it be? I guess we’ll see. If the Cowboys lose this game, they might have to fire all of the popcorn vendors in the new stadium, obviously they are a problem too. (Jerry Jones, look in the mirror!!!!) The Cowboys travel to the new Meadowlands and they are running into a buzz saw. Not that I think the Giants are that good, because Manning can give it away, but they have a decent all around team and I expect them to dominate a Dallas defense that hasn’t been able to stop too many people this season. I can’t pick the Cowboys. The keyboard won’t even let me type it. Winner – Giants.
Seattle @ Arizona – The Battle of Two Bad teams. Hasselbeck will probably start coming off of his concussion, but he should do a lot of handing off to Lynch if they want to win this game. I’m not even sure who’s starting for the Cardinals at QB, but it seems over the last few weeks that they are more comfortable with Derek Anderson back there. Here’s to hoping he can play some decent ball this weekend. Winner – Cardinals.
St. Louis @ San Francisco – This starts the 49ers path towards winning the NFC West. No one has really stepped up to take away the division, so here’s to making Mike Singletary and the rest of the 49ers front office look like geniuses. Winner – 49ers.
New England @ Pittsburgh – The winner of this game will be my pick to represent the AFC in the Superbowl, unless the Patriots win. I’m not sold on the Patriots and it’s hard as he77 to win in Pittsburgh. Belicheat can only scheme so much. Winner – Steelers.
Philadelphia @ Washington – The Battle for the Rightful QB of the Eagles. Vick brings his Eagles squad to Washington to face the old face of the Eagles, Donovan McNabb. Vick owes McNabb a lot since he took him under his wing when the Eagles rescued him from purgatory (coming out of jail). Too bad he won’t give McNabb what he needs the most and that’s a subpar performance. The Redskins don’t have enough and they’re limited on offense to win this game. The best thing that could happen is that Vick twists his ankle (not serious) and Kolb comes in and blows this game for the Eagles. That would be too much like right. Winner – Eagles.

NFL 2010 Week 8 Picks
Not a bad week last week, but let’s see if we can build on this.
Miami @ Cincinnati – Can we do it two weeks in a row? Well, can Palmer do it two weeks in a row? Miami is a tough team that consistently plays well, and that comes from good coaching (and some talent). The Bengals have got to run the ball which may be a chore against the Dolphins, but that helps Palmer be better. It’s a home game and you gotta think that the Bengals are going to get on track at some point in order to save their head coaches’ job. We’ll see. Winner – Bengals.
Jacksonville @ Dallas – The dust has settled and now the Cowboys have to play the hand they were dealt. Jon Kitna is the starter and it’s been almost 2 years since his last start. He was able to get Dez Bryant involved last week and I expect that he’ll continue that. Dallas has to figure out their running game, is it going to be Barber, Jones, or whomever? Get one and stick with him until he gets hurt. The season is pretty much over unless they get something miraculous going on in Dallas. This game should allow them to at least get a win and feel good about themselves. IF they lose to this Jaguars team, they shouldn’t even show up for the rest of the year. Winner – Cowboys.
Washington @ Detroit – Matthew Stafford will get the start for this game. This week they get another NFC East squad in the Redskins. Based on the performance last week by the Redskins against the Bears, Stafford may want to let Stanton take this start. I do expect that the Redskins defense will play pretty well in this game, but I expect the Redskins to have problems running the ball against the Lions front 4. I don’t expect that Stafford will be as good as he has looked in previous weeks, so I gotta go with the veteran. Winner – Redskins.
Buffalo @ Kansas City – On the surface, this would be an easy pick because the Chiefs are showing that they can put points on the board and they can play some defense. Then they get the Bills offense that put up a lot of points and gained a lot of yards against a normally stout Ravens defense. Ryan Fitzpatrick is looking like a better version of Matt Cassel when he was in New England, but of course Fitzpatrick went to Harvard. This could be a test for the Chiefs that they really have to pass since this is a team that they should beat. Are they up to the task? Winner – Chiefs.
Green Bay @ New York Jets – The Jets are coming off of their bye and things haven’t been as entertaining without them being in the news. A week away allows Revis to rest his hamstring, and probably was a good break for this team. I imagine that they will make quick work of the Packers since they don’t have a running game and I think the Jets will get to Rodgers enough to beat him up. The Bears should be happy this week because they are on a bye and they get to watch the Packers lose. Winner – Jets.
Denver @ San Francisco – I guess call me crazy too. I really think that the 49ers can win the NFC West, unless the Seahawks just turn it on. None of the teams in that division are blowing me away. Yes, the 49ers are having QB issues, but I think that it gets better with Troy Smith starting this week. Here’s to lightening in a bottle for Smith. The Broncos need to bounce back from last weeks’ thrashing at the hands of the Raiders (of all teams), so I expect this to be a close game. Winner – 49ers.
Tennessee @ San Diego – Will Vince go this week? Will the Chargers get out of the gate this week? I’m pretty much giving up on the Chargers. They are having problems with their depth at LB but they are going to let go Merriman, they are having problems with their WR but they don’t want to pay their best one in Jackson, and for some reason this pool of talent just can’t seem to get it going. Sounds like front office and coaching issues to me. The Titans have a great running game and some underappreciated receivers. They just continue to push forward and win games. I expect that they will continue that trend this week. Winner – Titans.
Tampa Bay @ Arizona – Somebody has to win this game, right? The Cardinals need a QB and the Bucs need a consistent RB. This will be indoors and maybe this Bucs defense gets a little faster? I really have no idea. I just feel sorry for Fitzgerald having to endure this down period for the Cardinals. Winner – Bucs.
Minnesota @ New England – So the big question is how is Brett’s ankle? We know he can still text, but can he play this week? Yes, the streak is on the line and I imagine that Childress will start Jackson. If that happens, look for the Vikings to be energized with T-Jack back there and I think they’ll be excited enough to get this win. The Patriots haven’t looked good (barring that one game against the Ravens) since they traded Randy Moss. Are they still an elite team without a big play receiver? The Vikings have to have this game, in the biggest way. Winner – Vikings.
Seattle @ Oakland – The Raiders come off their best game in what, 10 years? They play a Seahawks team that seems to find a way to win. Can Jason Campbell play well two games in a row? That may be the biggest question. For some reason I think that he has turned the corner. Hasselbeck may play well in this game also, but I think it’ll come down to the running game of each team, so DMC (McFadden) vs. Marshawn Lynch. Who you got? Winner – Raiders.
Pittsburgh @ New Orleans – The Saints NEED a win and they get to welcome the Steelers into the bayou. I would normally say that this would be an ambush, but I think this is the worst thing for the Saints. The Steelers have been playing decent/good ball when they decide to run, and the Saints have problems stopping the run. Brees won’t have a lot of time back in that pocket, so I gotta go with the better defense. Winner – Steelers.
Houston @ Indianapolis – Rematch!!! The Texans hit the Colts early and often in their last game. The Texans have had some rough patches as of late and the Colts aren’t really impressing me. The Colts have lost Collie and Clark and it seems as though everyone is beat up otherwise. This game is in Indy on Monday night and that’s when magic happens. Going against the grain here. Winner – Texans.
Who you got?!?!?
Miami @ Cincinnati – Can we do it two weeks in a row? Well, can Palmer do it two weeks in a row? NFL 2010 Week 2 Wrap Up
This was a good week!!! The word of the week is turnovers, underlying the fact that unless you’re Baltimore and you have a lot of them, you should lose.
Pittsburgh @ Tennessee – The Steelers find ways to win. That defense is playing extremely well even though we don’t know who will start for the Steelers at QB next week, I still think they are ok. Dennis Dixon hurt his knee which brought in Charlie Batch and the offense couldn’t get going. After a great Week 1 performance, Vince Young looked terrible (I think the Steelers D had something to do with that) and even he was benched for Kerry Collins. Sloppy game with lots of turnovers, but the Steelers lasted through it all. Good hard fought win. Inquisitive Mind 1 – 0 for the week.
Miami @ Minnesota – I’ve said that Miami is a team that may not beat you but they won’t beat themselves either. They are always fundamentally sound and it showed against a listless Vikings team. AP got his 28 carries (maybe someone in Minny was reading this?), but Favre looked terrible. He kind of has that snowball effect thing down pat. Once it went bad, it kept getting worse. He needs receivers and barring a miraculous healing effort by God, Sidney Rice will be too late. Vincent Jackson is free and he’s available. Inquisitive Mind 1 – 1 for the week.
Arizona @ Atlanta – This is the Falcons team that I was looking for in Week 1. The Falcons struck early and often and ran up the score on the Cardinals. Ryan had a low total of passing yards, 225, but had 3 TDs. Plus when you rush for more than 200 yards as a team, you don’t have to throw far. Hopefully Michael Turner’s groin injury is as minor as they say. This team has a chance to do somethings in the NFC this year. Inquisitive Mind 2 – 1 for the week.
Baltimore @ Cincinnati – For those that follow, I trust in Ray and it hurt me to have to pick against him and the Ravens, but after seeing what I saw yesterday,……you gotta feel that somewhere, the nonsense has to stop. I tripping penalty on a LB that gets blocked into a QB, a roughing the passer call on a LB when he is tackling a QB before the QB is in his throwing motion? 6 points. The Ravens shut down the Bengals the entire game. Flacco had an equally bad game with 4 INTs, and his team still should have won. Ray will get a fine, but as he said, sometimes you just gotta be honest about things. Inquisitive Mind 3 – 1 for the week.
Kansas City @ Cleveland – Another good showing by the defense for the Chiefs and if not for them, this would have been an ‘L’. Cassel looked terrible as this looked like a game between two bad teams. Seneca Wallace showed that he’s better than Delhomee as he moved the Browns up and down the field pretty well. I guess we’ll see him starting next week too. All you can say is that the Chiefs are 2-0 (E. Wise, I know you’re somewhere smiling today). Wow!!! Inquisitive Mind 4 – 1 for the week.
Chicago @ Dallas – Wow!! Did these teams switch jerseys before the game? The Cowboys looked terrible, at home. I think we can go ahead and quash any of that playing the Superbowl as the home team talk. Both teams stopped the others ground game which would normally give the edge to the Cowboys, but Jay Cutler played pretty well with a 21 for 29 for 277 yards and 3 TDs. Jason Witten was knocked out of the game, but looked poised for a return, but it’s probably good the Cowboys erred on the side of caution. Can the Cowboys cut Roy Williams now? At least I was right about Dez Bryant showing up. Inquisitive Mind 4 – 2 for the week.
Philadelphia @ Detroit – Mike Vick looked good in (21 of 34 for 284 and 2 TDs) and out (7 carries for 37 yards) of the pocket. I think this one came down to LeSean McMcoy having an equally good game. McCoy ended the game with 120 yards and 3 TDs on 16 carries. A Shaun Hill led Lions team didn’t go quietly in the night. Jahvid Best (17 carries for 78 yards, 2 TDs) and Shaun Hill put up nice numbers and given a stop or two by the defense may have had a chance to win this game. A lot closer than many thought. Detroit might be on the way back to being good. Inquisitive Mind 5 – 2 for the week.
Buffalo @ Green Bay – No contest, period. The Packers weren’t able to run the ball as much as I thought, but it really didn’t matter. Inquisitive Mind 6 – 2 for the week.
Tampa Bay @ Carolina – The Bucs came out and did work against the Panthers. They controlled the game and Josh Freeman had a good outing (12 of 24 for 178 yards and 2 TDs). The Panthers looked terrible and we saw both QBs (Moore and Clausen) look equally bad with the telling sign being John Fox saying that ‘it’s too early to tell who the starter for week 3 will be’. I know already. Inquisitive Mind 7 – 2 for the week.
Seattle @ Denver – I knew I shouldn’t have gone with Pete Carroll on this one. The Seahawks looked as bad as they looked good in Week 1. If you didn’t see this game and you wonder how the Broncos won, you just have to look at one person’s stat line, Kyle Orton: 25 of 35 for 307 and 2 TDs. Inquisitive Mind 7 – 3 for the week.
St. Louis @ Oakland – Talk about an ugly game. Bruce Gradkowski replaced Jason Campbell after halftime and the Raiders held on to a win. Darren McFadden may have finally proven that he can carry the load with an awesome game (30 carries for 145 yards). Somebody had to win, right? Inquisitive Mind 8 – 3 for the week.
Houston @ Washington – This was an amazing win for the Texans. They were down 17 to the Redskins at home in the 3rd quarter and many thought this was going to be a Redskins 2-0 start. Then, boom, boom, boom and the Texans tie the game on a beautiful catch by Andre Johnson. Matt Schaub ended up throwing for 497 yards (38 of 52) while McNabb threw for 426 yards (28 of 38). This was gut wrenching for the Redskins, but I might have to say that the Texans are for real this year. Inquisitive Mind 9 – 3 for the week.
New England @ New York Jets – This game didn’t necessarily live up to the hype, but the Jets found a way to throw the ball downfield and I think, actually surprised the Pats. Mark Sanchez looked like the better QB and there was a LT sighting (11 carries for 76 yards) for the Jets. Moss got a touchdown reception, but other than that he had 2 catches for 38 yards. Revis did end up leaving the game in the 2nd quarter as his hammy tightened up on him. This was a completely different Jets team from Week 1. Good win, or it could have been trouble for the Jets. Inquisitive Mind 9 – 4 for the week.
Jacksonville @ San Diego – We had a Luke McCown sighting. If you’re a Jaguars fan, that’s terrible news. Phillip Rivers was efficient as ever with his 22 for 29 for 334 yards, 3 TDs, and 2 INTs (so he was really 24 of 29). McCown replaced Garrard in the 4th but got shaken up himself. Garrad ended the game 15 of 23 for 173 yards, 1 TD, and 4 INTs. Looks like the same ole Jaguars team that stunk last year. Inquisitive Mind 10 – 4 for the week.
New York Giants @ Indianapolis – This turned out to be a laugher. I still have no idea why people continue to put Eli Manning in the discussion as a good QB? The only thing that he and Peyton share is blood. Peyton proved, yet again, that he is the best Manning around with a 20 of 26 for 255 yards and 3 TDs performance. He controlled the game and the Colts defense continued to acquaint themselves with Eli. The funniest part of this game was Brandon Jacobs throwing his helmet into the stands and pleading that ensued to get the helmet back. How do you throw your helmet into the stands? Inquisitive Mind 11 – 4 for the week.
New Orleans @ San Francisco – This was a great game. The 49ers had the game plan and pretty much executed that game plan, minus the 4 turnovers, and they almost pulled it off. They were 3 inches from a win and that has to hurt. So now we know how to beat the Saints: 1) Wind 2) Great mix of run and pass to keep Brees on the sideline 3) Some luck. How many people will talk about the Heisman curse with Reggie Bush breaking his leg? Inquisitive Mind 12 – 4 for the week.
After that terrible last week, a 12-4 record really helps you bounce back. So for the year we are at 19-13 and not in bad shape with the professionals. WHO DAT?!?!?!?
Darren McFadden may have finally proven that he can carry the load with an awesome game (30 carries for 145 yards). Somebody had to win, right? Inquisitive Mind 8 – 3 for the week.

NFL 2010 Week 1 Wrap Up
I’m not sure what happened, but this week started well and then just went into the tank. I guess the underlying theme of Week 1 is wait until Week 2 before we start playing. Oh and another thing, let’s make sure that it’s not close to have a referee decide a game. Let’s get the tale of the tape.
Minnesota @ New Orleans – After an aggressive first drive for the Saints, this turned out to be a yawner. Not much excitement on either side of the ball, and each team seemed a little rusty to say the least (maybe there is an argument for an 18 game season). The Saints won, but I imagine that both teams will be better over the remainder of the season. Just one questions popped out during this game, I know Peterson had 19 carries, but this is game one of the season, why not give him 25? He didn’t put the ball on the ground. Sounds like Chilly is over coaching already. Inquisitive Mind 1 – 0 for the week.
Carolina @ New York Giants – We all knew that the Panthers had no chance in this one, but it just took the Giants a little while to wake up. Eli had 3 INTs to go along with 3 TDs, but we all know that the ground game will be the key for the Giants this year. And, I said it, Clausen will be the starter by week 3. After that hit that Moore took, we’re one step closer. Inquisitive Mind 2- 0 for the week.
Atlanta @ Pittsburgh – Talk about crying in your beer. This was a slugfest. The Steelers stopped the Falcons ground game and the Falcons stopped the Steelers air attack (yes, limited with Dixon back there). This came down to 3 things: 1) Polamalu’s pick in the 4th. The announcers were saying a great call by Dick LeBeau, no way. Polamalu jumped that route after he saw White catching it all day long. Beautiful play to get his toes in. 2) Jeff Reed’s two missed field goals (and one with the win on the line?) and lastly 3) Atlanta, is this all you got on offense? I mean Ryan can’t throw that deep out every 7th play and hope that it works and no running game to speak of. Falcons, you let me down. Also, I love it when I’m right about Ward. Inquisitive Mind 2 – 1 for the week.
Cleveland @ Tampa Bay – Maybe the Panther fans were right to laugh when I mentioned the best QB in this game being Delhomme. He proved that he’s a decent QB, but oh my goodness he is mistake prone. Freeman looked decent and the defense showed glimpses of years past. The Bucs snuck one out. Inquisitive Mind 2 – 2 for the week.
Denver @ Jacksonville – I’m going to go out on a limb and say this is the best game that Garrard has played in 2 maybe 3 years. The Jaguars had a balanced attack and the defense was teeing of on Orton like he was a piñata. Denver might be in trouble. Orton can’t keep taking hits like that. Inquisitive Mind 2 – 3 for the week.
Indianapolis @ Houston – The Texans beat the Colts. I think everyone in Houston is still partying. Yes, it’s the first game of the year, but 231 yards rushing by Arian Foster and a good/great defensive unit spells good things for the Texans. Even with Manning throwing for 433 yards (a career high) and having a 109 QB rating, this game wasn’t as close as the final makes it seem. If the Texans can play like this all year, that AFC South is going to be interesting. Inquisitive Mind 3 – 3 for the week.
Miami @ Buffalo – Somebody had to win this game and the Dolphins just eeked it out. Not much else to say. If you watched this game, I apologize for the 2 ½ hours of your life you won’t get back. Inquisitive Mind 4 – 3 for the week.
Detroit @ Chicago – WHEW!!!! What in the halibut is going on here? I’m sorry, this was a loss for the Bears. Johnson caught that pass and was getting up when he lost the ball. I’m waiting on the NFL to review this one. Bears fans have a lot to be happy about: 1) a win is a win 2) Urlacher played pretty well and didn’t get hurt 3) and they may have found their #1 receiver in Matt Forte (well, this is really a joke). Forte rushed for 50 yards and had another 151 yards in the air. How can Lovie be so arrogant? Doesn’t he know that he has exactly 15 more games to be the head coach of the Bears? Inquisitive Mind 5 – 3 for the week.
Oakland @ Tennessee – Can I take get a do over on this one? Yes, I used big IFs earlier but the Raiders looked horriawful, with the exception of Darren McFadden. He did prove that he can carry the full load (even if only for one game). The Titans will end up a lot better than some guessed if they can play like this the rest of the year. VY had a decent game and only had 17 attempts, while Chris Johnson did his work. Inquisitive Mind 5 – 4 for the week.
Cincinnati @ New England – If this game were another 2 quarters long,……the Bengals didn’t start playing football until after halftime. You can’t do that and expect to win at Gillette Stadium. Wes Welker looked good in his return to the big stage and I’m still trying to find how Ochocinco had 12 receptions for 159 yards. Did I turn the channel or something? Maybe the Bengals will wake up and start playing now. Inquisitive Mind 5 – 5 for the week.
Arizona @ St. Louis – How quickly the mighty have fallen. It’s going to be a long year for the Cardinals if they are going to play like this. Both teams looked horriawful, but one of them was a few inches from a Superbowl two years ago and the other team was starting a rookie QB and if you watched the game, you couldn’t have picked which team was which. Bradford might actually be the real deal. Inquisitive Mind 6 – 5 for the week.
San Francisco @ Seattle – I bet you a dollar to a donut that no one on that 49ers team slept well last night. They probably won’t sleep at all this week. They looked worse than horriawful. 2 field goals is all they could get? From a 49ers standpoint, I point to one stat line: 26 of 45 for 225 yards and 2 INTs. Alex Smith, please pack your bags. Happy to see Hasselbeck play well since he’s been beaten up so much the last few years. I wonder if the NCAA would take some of Pete Carroll’s money he made as coach of USC because he knew guys were cheating (old bone to pick)? Are the Seahawks for real is the question? I guess we will know if about 3 more weeks. Inquisitive Mind 6 – 6 for the week.
Green Bay @ Philadelphia – I never root for anyone to get hurt, but I have to say that Kolb playing the way he did and leaving the way he did is ‘KARMA’. You don’t get rid of McNabb just because. Kolb sustained a concussion right before halftime (hopefully he’ll be ok) and then we got Mike Vick. The pack played well, but may have lost Ryan Grant for a significant time after the injury to his ankle. Brandon Jackson more than filled his shoes while Aaron Rodgers was throwing to just about everyone all day long. I guess we’ll have to see if Andy Reid was right by saying that ‘Kolb is his QB when he’s healthy again’. Inquisitive Mind 6 – 7 for the week.
Dallas @ Washington – You’ve got to be kidding me?!?!??!? This came down to a final play with the Cowboys throwing a TD and they lose. Somewhere, Daniel Snyder is smiling so hard his face is cracking. If the Cowboys don’t get an O-line and soon, all of this home team for the Superbowl stuff isn’t going to happen. Which Cowboy coach made that play call before the half? He should be cleaning the all the bathrooms in the new Cowboys Stadium. The Redskins snuck this game away from the Cowboys, but a win is a win. Inquisitive Mind 6 – 8 for the week.
Baltimore @ New York Jets – This was a smash mouth game that should have been a joy to watch for those that appreciate defense (and some bad offense). The Jets brought all of the bravado but no offense to speak of. I doubt they completed a pass for more than 10 yards at any one time. The Ravens defense, led by Ray Lewis smothered and hit the Jets all night. Shonn Greene may not touch the ball for a week or two after letting it hit the ground so much last night. In the end, the better offense won. Flacco to Boldin looks like a good pairing. Is it me or does Flacco always seem to throw off of his back foot? The scary thing is that both teams will get better. Bad omen for the Jets is that they may have lost Kris Jenkins for an extended period of time. Inquisitive Mind 7 - 8 for the week.
San Diego @ Kansas City – This is reason #4080 that Norv is NOT the coach that the Chargers need. This was a loss to the Chefs (still the funniest commercial ever). The Chargers looked lackadaisical and not ready for football. The Chiefs didn't really have that much on offense and they still won. If anything I was surprised that the Chiefs defense is actually starting to look like a unit. Great kick return by rookie Dexter McCluster. Great upset by the Chiefs. Inquisitive Mind 7 - 9 for the week.
Well, that's Week 1 down and I think that I'm happy it's over. A 7-9 record is not how you want to start the season, but hey, we have a long way to go. I'm not too far off of the professionals.

Postponed!!!!

Due to Hurricane Ike, the Ravens vs. Texans game will not be played until November 9, 2008. So, for all of you Fantasy Football guys, you better start looking for options now. Someone please forget to tell my opponent, Tha Bruthaz, that the game is on hold. You can still play McGahee if you want.
