Shawne Merriman has just informed the San Diego Chargers that he will NOT have surgery and will play this year. This guy has 4 ligaments in his knee (just like the rest of us) but 2 of those are gone. Can someone tie this guy down and make him think about his career?!?!? He is going to roll the dice just for one season?!?!?!? This is bad news. It's great to play hurt, but play smart. I hope his condition doesn't get worse. He's got a lot of guys that are going to target that knee this year. The Chargers have been a class organization, someone should tell this guy that he needs to get the surgery and get ready for 2009. We all know his contract is up at the end of 2009 and this is going to get dicey unless he's already got a deal on the table (under the table) with the Chargers.
Just so you understand, Merriman has a torn LCL and a torn PCL. I've included the picture below for your consumption.
