NFL Week 7 Wrap Up

Ok, back in the saddle. Been doing a lot with little Inquisitive Mind lately so my time has been hijacked by his wants. Hey, they're kids, it happens. So on to Week 7 to see how I did. I'll start this off by asking, what is happening in Dallas and New England?

San Diego @ Buffalo - Well, I told you it would be a close game and everything told me to go with the Bills, but I didn't listen. My gut was wrong, so now I have to start getting rid of it (pulling out my Taebo tape - thanks Uncle John). The Bills got down early but their defense stepped up and stopped the Chargers, while the usual suspects (Marshawn Lynch, Lee Evans, and Trent Edwards) ran the offense. Inquisitive Mind 0 - 1 for the week.

Minnesota @ Chicago - Who would have thunk that these two teams would put up almost 100 points? There was a lot of defense and a lot of points, and it seemed that the Bears just outlasted the Vikings. AP still got his 100+ yards on the ground, but Kyle Orton really impressed me with his 21 of 32 for 283 and 2 TDs. Inquisitive Mind 1 - 1 for the week.

Pittsburgh @ Cincinnati - This was a slobber knocker at first, but ended up being a run away win for the Steelers. Mewelde Moore ran for more yards (120) and TDs (2) than I'd ever thought he could. The Steelers defense shut down a limited Bengals offense. Inquisitive Mind 2 - 1 for the week.

Tennessee @ Kansas City - Larry Johnson suspended for the game. Chiefs use all 3 quarterbacks in one game. Chiefs had 58 yards rushing for the game. Chiefs had the ball for 29:10 of the game. The latter being the best stat of the day since the Titans only had the ball for 30:50. The Titans just scored quickly. Inquisitive Mind 3 - 1 for the week.

Dallas @ St. Louis - Yes, this was supposed to be a blow out, even with Brad Johnson at the helm. The Cowboys looked shook and played that way for the rest of the day. This was the most embarrassing loss for the Cowboys in years. You lose to a 1-4 team and have their running back go for 160 yards and 3 TDs. Troy Aikman is rolling over in his grave as we speak. Well, he's not dead yet but I bet you even his seat was hot after watching this game. Inquisitive Mind 3 - 2 for the week.

Baltimore @ Miami - This is how you repay me? I finally pick the Dolphins and they let me down. The Dolphins looked like, well, the Dolphins. They scored first but never seemed to get comfortable. That fancy offense didn't work against the Ravens who stopped the Dolphins all day long. Congrats to Terrell Suggs for getting his first TD in the NFL. Someone start the voting for Defensive Player of the Year. My vote goes to Ray Lewis. Inquisitive Mind 3 - 3 for the week.

San Francisco @ New York Giants - The Giants dominated from the start. The 49ers played very laid back and just took the butt whuppin that they got and went home. As some would say, 'there's no fight in that dog'. Playing like that will get your coach fired. And, we all know what happened on that end. So, at least the 49ers start the Singeltary Era next week. Nowhere to go but up. Inquisitive Mind 4 - 3 for the week.

New Orleans @ Carolina - The Saints welcomed back Jeremy Shockey and Marques Colston. Unfortunately, this wasn't the game they should have played. Shcokey reinjured his groin and now Reggie Bush has undergone knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus (out for 2-4 weeks). On top of this, the Saints were dominated by the Carolina defense. Inquisitive Mind 5 - 3 for the week.

Detroit @ Houston - This had the look of a blowout with the Texans running out to a 21-0 lead, but the Lions roared back and made this a close game. Calvin Johnson was held to 2 catches for the game, but led the team with 154 yards receiving and a TD. Houston was able to run out the clock at the end of the game to secure this victory. Maybe the Lions are starting to turn the corner, or Roy Williams was just bad karma? Inquisitive Mind 6 - 3 for the week.

New York Jets @ Oakland - Part of me cried on the inside with this game. It was sloppy with Favre giving away two picks, but the Raiders actually looked like a team that wanted to win. That may be hard to understand, but they had the look of a team that knew they were out gunned and out manned, but they put up a hell of a fight and won. For the Jets, Thomas Jones did get 159 yards on the ground but those two picks by Favre and the Raiders ground game (242 yards) really turned the game in their favor. Inquisitive Mind 6 - 4 for the week.

Indianapolis @ Green Bay - Is it time for the Colts to just hang it up for the season? Those knee operations by Manning have really negatively effected him. He's not in sync with his receivers and his two picks for TDs really killed them on Sunday. Inquisitive Mind 6 - 5 for the week.

Cleveland @ Washington - This was another ugly game with the Browns having less than 250 total yards of offense. The Browns played this game close and almost won this one late. I call this a game that Washington survived and that's a lot better than the Cowboys did against lesser competition. Inquisitive Mind 7 - 5 for the week.

Seattle @ Tampa Bay - Jeff Garcia led a normally subdued Bucs offense with 300+ yards passing while the defense played a great all around game to stifle the Seahawks. This is not the way that Holmgren wanted to spend his last year in Seattle. Hey, you can always go and work in San Fran if Singeltary falters. Inquisitive Mind 8 - 5 for the week.

Denver @ New England - All signs pointed to this being another blow out for the Pats, but someone forgot to tell the Pats. The Pats defense showed up and stopped the Broncos at every opportunity, minus the one TD with 13:21 left to play in the 4th. Randy Moss, where have you been? I can't believe that I am saying this, but the Pats are NOT dead. They are 4-2 people. Without Brady and Maroney (out for the year). They could mess around and make the playoffs. Inquisitive Mind 8 - 6 for the week.

Not a good week on the picks, but hey, I feel better than the Cowboys. We'll see what happens next week. Until then, keep watching the pigskin.
